Manchester United have now been training under Ruben Amorim for almost a full week now with game one on the horizon.
The international break is over and now we eagerly await Ruben Amorim’s debut match against Ipswich and Kieran McKenna.
Manchester United will be confident of getting off to a hot start this weekend, with Gary Neville predicting a top-four push under Amorim this season.
The signs all point in this direction, with the United squad wowed by Amorim in training as he has been implementing a Sporting Lisbon-esque 3-4-3 formation.
Now, it has been revealed how Amorim has been feeling about his new squad at Carrington during week one of training.
Ruben Amorim’s verdict on Manchester United squad
As United come to the end of the first week of training under Amorim, United in Focus have spoken with TBR’s Graeme Bailey about the Portuguese manager’s view on the squad.
“It’s a happy group. I’ve heard Amorim is happy with what’s going on, happy with what he’s seen. It’s been a good week I hear.”
During this week of training, Mason Mount caught the eye of Amorim leading to reports that he would start at the weekend. However, according to Graeme, this had come “from Mason Mount’s camp” – which is not to say it won’t happen.
Continuing, Graeme explained that the squad is still being reviewed and United are not desperate to make signings in January as a result.
“Dan Ashworth will be assessing the squad over the next few weeks and there will be youngsters involved who may not have been thought of previously – so areas of weakness may not be what we thought. They aren’t desperate to do any business in January.”
January certainly looks unlikely to have too many thrills for United, however, Graeme did mention that deals for both Sverre Nypan of Rosenborg and also Chris Rigg of Sunderland were in the works and being mulled over.
Manchester United will not overhaul the squad in January
Despite rumours suggesting that United could go on a spending spree in the new year, the chances of this happening are fairly slim, with Amorim instead expected to give everyone a chance.
Harry Maguire is one player who looks currently to be out the door but has been tipped to shine under Amorim.
This will also be the case for the likes of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Antony who all looked to be on the way out in 2025.
Antony particularly has the chance to save his United career by adapting into being a wing-back in Amorim’s system.
Amorim will likely work with the squad he has for now before the summer transfer window is when we will see some proper moves made with the squad.
