Bruno Fernandes’ leadership as Manchester United has been called into question by Roy Keane.

There’s no denying that Manchester United are having a terrible season down in 14th in the Premier League table and everyone’s looking for someone to point the finger at.

Some will blame Ruben Amorim after he failed to turn results around after becoming head coach in November. Others will blame Ineos for their poor ownership decisions, with another 250 jobs cut at Old Trafford in the latest blow to club morale.

Ultimately, the players will come under huge fire for struggling to pick up points and Roy Keane slammed Bruno Fernandes in a heated rant about his leadership.

But Fernandes was superb against Ipswich and almost single-handedly rescued four points for United in the last two matches. United’s last six goals have come from Fernandes set pieces, with the Portuguese midfielder either scoring them himself or setting up his teammates.

Bruno Fernandes stat silences Roy Keane criticism

Keane’s criticism of Bruno Fernandes is that he is not a good leader, but it seems those inside Old Trafford couldn’t disagree more.

Harry Maguire called Fernandes a leader, while Amorim completely disagreed with Keane regarding his criticism.

United insiders rave about Fernandes’ leadership and not only is he a valuable asset off the pitch, but he is also leading by example on it too.

As reported by The Athletic, Fernandes has a huge responsibility at United when it comes to creating chances. Only Liverpool rely on one player to create more chances.

Their analysis shows that United rely on Fernandes for 17% of their creativity – only Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold rates higher.

Interestingly, no other United player features in the top 20, emphasising just how important Fernandes is to creating chances and controlling play.

Man United fans must get behind Bruno Fernandes

Given the huge problems at United currently, it seems extremely bizarre to try and pin blame on Fernandes – one of very few players who have made a major contribution in recent years.

He has lifted two trophies at United and has stepped up on multiple occasions when the team was struggling.

Amorim can’t speak more highly of Fernandes, with the United coach praising his character and leadership in the dressing room.

“I think he’s [Fernandes] a blessing,” Amorim told MUTV. “Of course, he has that character, which is sometimes hard for people to understand.

“But I really like him, he’s a very good player. He works really well and is always available, so he is the kind of player this club needs.

Given how honest Amorim has been about everything since arriving at Old Trafford, there is no reason to doubt what he is saying.
