Ruben Amorim is a coach who can make Manchester United “fight for everything” and the ex-Sporting CP manager has a “special connection,” according to Federico Macheda.
The 40-year-old Manchester United manager has been under immense scrutiny since his arrival at Old Trafford from Portuguese outfit Sporting CP last November.
Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager last October after a disastrous start to the season and Ruben Amorim succeeded the Dutchman in the Old Trafford dugout.
Amorim has wasted no time in laying down his blueprint for United, including shaking up the tactical system that the Red Devils use under him.
The Portuguese coach has been met with criticism over his preferred formation amid United’s run of form in the 2024-25 Premier League season.
Amorim has seen progression for United in the Europa League and in the FA Cup, but the Red Devils’ league form has been sporadic over the course of the season.
United languish in 15th place in the Premier League table and the Red Devils are on course for their worst league finish since the league’s inception in 1992.
The Red Devils have only managed eight league wins from 26 matches this season and Amorim’s men are currently 13 points clear of the relegation zone.

Macheda on Amorim and three Man Utd stars
Manchester United are 16 points adrift from the top four and the Red Devils’ hopes of securing a Champions League qualification spot in the league are all but over.
But Ruben Amorim’s men could still secure entry to the Champions League next season if United end up lifting the Europa League trophy in the current campaign.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Federico Macheda has spoken highly of Amorim amid United’s struggles and tipped him to succeed at Old Trafford.
The 33-year-old former United striker claimed that only Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez can be seen as leaders in Amorim’s squad.
“I believe yes he can. Amorim has a special connection. He’s one coach that can get Manchester United to fight for everything,” Macheda said.
“I like Amorim even if you don’t see the results, maybe sometimes they play bad football.
“It’s difficult because for a club to be successful, you need great players.
“United doesn’t have the team at the moment to win the Premier League. They have good players but if you put any coach in, it wouldn’t change a lot.
“There are only a few leaders: Bruno, Maguire, Lisandro. But it’s not enough. Maybe the others are not ready to play for this club.”
Macheda talks Amorim and Premier League
United have failed to win the Premier League title ever since legendary former Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired from football in 2013.
Macheda, who made his memorable United debut under Sir Alex Ferguson, believes that Amorim can lead the Red Devils to the Premier League title once again.
“Amorim should keep the legacy and history at Manchester United going by rebuilding like they used to with young players. Then I believe the wind will change,” he continued.
“If they trust Amorim and give him time, bring in the right players and change some things in the club like the bad mentality, I believe Manchester United will be back in two to three years.”
