Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane didn’t hold back in his furious rant aimed at Bruno Fernandes.
It has been a season to forget for Manchester United, that much is obvious. Even after Wednesday’s 3-2 win over Ipswich Town, the Red Devils are only 14th in the Premier League table.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 13 | 27 | 10 | 3 | 14 | 53 | 39 | 14 | 33 | |
| 14 | 27 | 9 | 6 | 12 | 33 | 39 | -6 | 33 | |
| 15 | 27 | 7 | 11 | 9 | 30 | 34 | -4 | 32 |
However, beating 18th-placed Ipswich at Old Trafford was far more difficult than Ruben Amorim would have liked.
After Patrick Dorgu’s red card, United had to battle hard for three points. Bruno Fernandes was integral to the win after setting up all three goals from set-piece situations.
It means United’s last six goals have all come from Fernandes set pieces, with Amorim’s side struggling to score from open play. However, Roy Keane is still far from impressed with United’s current captain.

Man United fans disagree with Roy Keane’s Bruno Fernandes rant
In the latest episode of The Overlap, Keane and Ian Wright get involved in a heated debate about Bruno Fernandes.
Keane questioned fans for supporting and chanting for Fernandes, who he calls an “imposter”. Wright responds by suggesting Fernandes is the only reason United aren’t in the relegation zone this season.
United fans on social media were siding with Wright and questioning Keane’s criticism of Fernandes.
One fan wrote: “Roy Keane is surprisingly passionate for someone who claims he’s “not a fan” of Manchester United. Bruno isn’t even in the top 20 problems at Manchester United, foul agenda.”
Another wrote: “I’m starting to wonder if Roy Keane has ever seen Bruno play. He is the one player he have that does things right. If more of our players matches Bruno’s effort in mentality, we would not be 15th.”
A third fan called Keane’s take “disgraceful”: “I adore Roy Keane but I disagree 100% with him on this one, actually I find it totally disgraceful to talk about the only player who undoubtedly gives everything he has on the pitch for Man Utd tackles running goals assists defending. Please put some respect on Bruno’s name!”
Another wrote: “As a captain I kind of get it but I think Keane is too harsh, to answer his question Bruno is saving us from relegation.”
One fan even called Keane “obsessed”: “Keane is obsessed with Bruno Fernandes. Constantly going after him when in reality Bruno is the only reason we are not relegated.”
Finally, one fan suggests United’s ex-players are “becoming an issue” with their criticism.
Much bigger issues than Bruno Fernandes at Man United
To take aim at Fernandes given the stories coming out of Manchester United over the past month is wild.
Off the pitch, Ineos have cut another 200 jobs, and everyday staff are suffering more and more from cost cuts.
On the pitch, United’s last two results – the draw against Everton and win over Ipswich – Fernandes was the difference maker.
Amorim has raved about Fernandes’ character off the pitch, and frankly United could do with more players with his attitude. Fernandes is always available for United and has stepped up and won some crucial games.
Criticism from former players is becoming an issue in itself. Everyone at United will know they are underperforming, but constant criticism and pressure from the outside is helping no one.
