Rio Ferdinand’s immediate one-word reaction to Bryan Mbeumo’s signing perfectly sums up how every Man Utd fan feels

Rio Ferdinand wasted no time making his feelings known after Manchester United finally landed Cameroon winger Bryan Mbeumo from Premier League side Brentford.

Bryan Mbeumo has been a key Manchester United target amid the summer transfer window alongside Matheus Cunha, who was signed from Wolves for £62.5m in June.

The Red Devils had made two approaches for the 25-year-old in June and Brentford rejected both bids, with United submitting their third bid for Mbeumo in July.

Mbeumo had entered into the final 12 months of his contract at Brentford, but the Bees were playing hardball over their asking price in the negotiations involving him.

Brentford were holding out for a fee for the French-born winger that eclipsed the £62.5m that United paid for former Wolves ace Matheus Cunha this summer.

United agreed to part ways with an initial £65m, including a further £6m in add-ons, last week after their third approach for Mbeumo and Brentford accepted the offer.

Rio Ferdinand could not hold back his true feelings after Man Utd announced the signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford

Bryan Mbeumo inked a five-year deal with Manchester United and the former Brentford ace is expected to link up with his new teammates for the pre-season tour.

The Cameroon and United winger is tipped to be named in Ruben Amorim’s travelling squad for the United States leg of the pre-season campaign this summer.

United have confirmed Mbeumo’s shirt number already and the ex-Bees attacker is Ruben Amorim’s third signing of the summer after Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.

The Red Devils submitted an initial offer of £55m for summer signing Mbeumo last month, which was rejected by Premier League side Brentford at the time.

United improved their offer to £62.5m in June before it was turned down again by the Bees, with the Red Devils having to pay in excess of £70m to sign Mbeumo.

Rio Ferdinand took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and immediately responded to United’s tweet confirming the signing of Mbeumo.

The 46-year-old United legend simply wrote in response: “Booooom!”

Mbeumo immediately welcomed his move to United this summer and the Red Devils summer signing is eager to play under manager Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

“As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams; the team whose shirt I wore growing up,” he told Manchester United’s official website.

“My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know that I have the spirit and character to reach another level here learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players.”

Mbeumo added: “Everybody told me about the environment that is being created here and how exciting the plans are for the future.

“This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans, we are all really determined to challenge for the biggest trophies.”

The Red Devils returned to action on Saturday for the start of their pre-season tour and United played out a 0-0 draw against Leeds United at the Strawberry Arena.
