Bryan Mbeumo squad number at Manchester United unveiled, one formerly assigned to Marcus Rashford

Manchester United have confirmed the move for Bryan Mbeumo, also announcing his squad number.

Bryan Mbeumo is officially a Manchester United player, with his long awaited move finally announced.

United confirmed the signing of Bryan Mbeumo late on July 21, six weeks since the club stepped up negotiations for his signature.

Mbeumo signs for a fee of £65 million. This makes him the club’s sixth most expensive signing of all time. United could pay £6 million more in add-ons.

Bryan Mbeumo gets new squad number

Bryan Mbeumo has already been assigned a new squad number at Manchester United.

Mbeumo has been given the number 19 shirt. It is a familiar one to him, the same number he wore for Brentford.

The number 19 has been vacant at Manchester United since Raphael Varane was released from his contract in June 2024.

The shirt has also been worn by Amad, Danny Welbeck and Nicky Butt. Marcus Rashford also wore the shirt during his time under Jose Mourinho.

19 was also assigned to the only other outfield player from Cameroon to represent the Red Devils, Eric Djemba-Djemba.

Mbeumo ready to get started

Mbeumo was the fourth fastest player in the Premier League last season, and scored 20 goals for Brentford.

He is excited to get started, telling club media: “As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams; the team whose shirt I wore growing up. 

“My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know that I have the spirit and character to reach another level here learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players.”

United are set to fly out to the USA for the club’s pre-season tour, and Mbeumo is now all booked in and ready to go.
