Max Taylor has become the sixth player released by Manchester United at the end of June to find a new club.
Taylor has signed a contract with League Two side Rochdale after a successful trial.
The 21-year-old centre-back had a loan at Kidderminster Harriers last season which was cut short after the non-league season ended prematurely. He then finished the season with United’s under-23s.
Earlier this summer Taylor had a trial at Slovenian top flight side Maribor, and managed to score for them. But they did not take up the option to sign him permanenly.
Now after a successful stint in Rochdale, Taylor will be sticking around in the north west of England.
Rochdale boss Robbie Stockdale talked up Taylor, and said the young defender has made a good impact since joining the club.
Stockdale told the club website: “I’m really pleased to have secured the services of Max. He been with us for a week to ten days now and he has impressed everybody with his attitude on and off the pitch, as well as his ability.
“He is relishing the fact that he’s going to get opportunities to play first team football.”
Taylor played a total of 41 academy games for Manchester United, which would have been higher if not for a stint out of the game while he recovered from a cancer diagnosis. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer named him in his squad to take on Astana in the Europa League in 2019.
After playing three trial games for Rochdale and clinching his move, Taylor added: ““I’m very happy to get everything over the line.
“I’ve loved the feeling around the club [during my time here so far]. Everyone has a great attitude and I’m really looking forward to cracking on with the season.”
At Rochdale, Taylor joins former United midfield academy talent Oliver Rathbone.
