Manchester United could end up with another Brazilian signing, with Danilo among the options.

Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo is among the names being considered by Manchester United as an option.

Transfer expert Ekrem Konur has exclusively told United In Focus about the club’s interest in Danilo and the situation regarding his future.

Man Utd interest in Danilo

Danilo is currently playing for Brazilian club Botafago after joining for around £20 million from Nottingham Forest in summer 2025.

He became their second highest transfer of all time, narrowly behind the acquisition of Thiago Almada.

Botafago were optimistic that Danilo’s call into the 2026 World Cup squad could lead to him being sold for a big profit.

Danilo played in four of Brazil’s five World Cup games, each as a substitute, but only totalled 43 minutes of playing time before their elimination.

Ekrem Konur explains that this has disappointed Botafago, commenting: “Botafogo had resisted selling the player before the World Cup, hoping his value would rise during the tournament.

“Brazil’s elimination in the round of 16 meant the anticipated increase in market value did not materialize, leaving his current valuation lower than expected.”

Manchester United have Danilo on the list as a back-up option in case other desired targets are not available.

Konur explains: “Sources indicate that the Red Devils have been monitoring his situation for some time, though they have yet to decide whether to make a formal bid.

“Should their primary targets prove unattainable, United are not ruling out a move for Danilo as a fallback option.”

Interest is still strong in Brazil

There is still a scramble in Brazil for Danilo’s signature, with Manchester United’s interest alerting other clubs to the possibility of signing the international midfielder.

Konur explains: “This scenario has accelerated the race within Brazil. Palmeiras are preparing to intensify talks with Botafogo, who currently value Danilo at around €40 million, viewing him as a dynamic addition to their midfield.

“Meanwhile, Flamengo are also interested, though their initial figures fall below the asking price. Internal discussions suggest a potential sale could ultimately be completed for less than €40 million.”

For Manchester United, this remains an achievable deal if it is a route the club want to pursue. But if they leave it too long, there is a risk Danilo could have moved elsewhere.

A move in the price ranges being discussed is still a relatively cheap one for United to do.

The midfielder played in the Premier League for Nottingham Forest between 2023 and 2025, making 62 appearances for the club in total.
