Andrey Santos’ career has largely been on an exciting trajectory, but his development was stunted by a terrible loan move to Nottingham Forest.
Manchester United have struck a £48m agreement to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea, and the Brazilian midfielder will arrive at Old Trafford as a very exciting talent with high potential.
During his development at Vasco Da Gama, Andrey Santos was one of the highest-rated young talents in Brazil, and Chelsea fought hard for his signature.
But before getting his chance to play in Chelsea’s first team, Santos was sent on loan to Nottingham Forest to gather experience, but the move turned into a nightmare.

Man Utd have AGREED a deal to sign Andrey Santos for £48m + £2m add-ons: What is your INSTANT REACTION?
Who do you want Man Utd to sign NEXT?
Andrey Santos was not to blame for Nottingham Forest failure
In 2023, Santos was sent to Nottingham Forest on loan, but he ended up making just two appearances for Steve Cooper’s side.
Incredibly, Cooper admitted to leaving Santos out of games simply because he wasn’t a permanent Forest player.
“It is the sort of situation where if he was our player, he would be in the perfect situation of being in and around the first-team, looking to involve him and giving him some exposure when you can, but knowing you are developing him and getting him ready,” Cooper said, as quoted by The Metro.
“The context to it is he isn’t our player, he is Chelsea’s, and that probably just adds a few question marks to the situation, which I understand.
“Game time has been very minimal. But I think the question has come up because we’re not his parent club. “

Andrey Santos dealt with Nottingham Forest disaster well
Essentially, Santos was signed by Nottingham Forest on loan, and then starved of any opportunities because… he was on loan.
It was a disastrous spell for the young Brazilian, who essentially had his development stalled for six months before being recalled by Chelsea.
After returning to Stamford Bridge, Santos reflected on his loan spell:
“It was my choice. Unfortunately, it wasn’t how we all imagined,” he said to Globo.com. “I imagined that I was going to play and so on, I was always ready, always well, but it was the coach’s choice, and I respect it.
“I continued working and, thank God, I’m back at Chelsea, ready to do my best in any team I’m in.”
