Manchester United fans have sent a powerful assessment of Michael Carrick rivalling Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola for the vacant head coach role at Old Trafford.

Ineos are tipped to appoint the seventh permanent Manchester United manager in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era in the summer after Ruben Amorim was sacked.

Ruben Amorim’s time as Man Utd head coach ended back in January and Michael Carrick sensationally returned to Old Trafford as an interim managerial appointment.

Carrick has now been tipped as one potential candidate to permanently succeed Amorim at United alongside the likes of Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola.

Michael Carrick vs Andoni Iraola: Man Utd fans have their say on the permanent successor pick to Ruben Amorim

Manchester United fans in United In Focus’ TalkingPoints were overwhelmingly in favour of a Michael Carrick appointment over the arrival of Andoni Iraola at the club.

“Yes. He should be the next full-time head coach,” one TalkingPoints user said.

Another added: “Whether you want him or not, he’s going to be appointed, so get behind him!”

Someone else commented: “Yes. Wait until [the] end of the season to make it official.”

“It has to be Carrick, who else could have made the same players play so brilliantly?” a fourth Man Utd fan added.

While a fifth Red Devils supporter posted: “MC [Carrick] did not do a thing wrong. It was the individual player mistake[s] that caused the two goals. However, I give the team credit for coming back strongly, especially KM [Kobbie Mainoo].”

Somebody else claimed: “Still not sure as Iraola is available and he’s more flexible, always improving his squad dramatically and surpassing [expectations]. Carrick has some rigidity and flaws in overall play that creep up every single game.”

A seventh suggested: “His game plan works so well, as I have seen every player chasing for the ball whenever the opponent has it. Not giving any easy ways to attack against them.”

Champions League qualification strengthens Michael Carrick’s bid to become the next permanent Man Utd manager

The Red Devils pulled six points clear of the Reds and Aston Villa after Man Utd defeated Liverpool 3-2 in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

Man Utd’s victory over Liverpool has allowed interim boss Carrick to ensure that the Red Devils will return to the Champions League for the 2026-27 campaign.

Carrick now has three Premier League matches left in his interim reign and a third-place finish will be high on his list ahead of the 2025-26 season at Old Trafford.

United’s links with Andoni Iraola have intensified in recent weeks after it was confirmed that the Bournemouth boss will leave the Cherries in the summer.
