Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is likely to pay for Manchester United’s shocking defeat to Watford with his job.
With five defeats in the last seven games, it would be the right call.
United’s board would be doing more harm than good by keeping Solskjaer in post.
The players must take their share of criticism too. Pundit Jamie Carragher pointed his aim towards United’s stars in wake of the defeat.

Carragher told Sky Sports: “It’s pretty obvious what’s going to happen [re Solskjaer].
“You can’t lose to Watford 4-1. No matter how the manager has set you up.
“Those players, some of the results and performances they have given this season is a disgrace, because that is one of the most expensive squads in world football, one of the highest paid squads in world football.
“And Watford are pretty awful, I’ve watched a lot of them this season, and to lose there 4-1 is absolutely disgraceful and disgusting by some of those players. The manager will go, but the way some of those players have performed this season has been scandalous.”
On the money
It’s never easy to hear an ex-Liverpool player weighing in, but Carragher has consistently spoken sense over United over the past few months, arguably more so than Gary Neville.
It is clearly looking like the end of the road for Solskjaer. The team are now in a worse position than when he arrived.
Chelsea have a 12 point lead over United at present and that could be extended next weekend when we visit Stamford Bridge.
The only question over that game is who will be in charge, whether United have a successor in for Solskjaer, or whether we will be left dealing with another interim boss while the board deliberate and drag this out.
While important to make a firm choice over a replacement for Solskjaer, the board have to get it right. The indecisiveness we have seen so far suggests they lack total faith in a chosen successor.
Whoever is in charge will expect better performances from the players than what we have seen over the past few matches.
The Chelsea fixture could be uncomfortable viewing if United play like we did against Watford.
