Arsenal legend Ian Wright singled out one first-team Manchester United star under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford and dropped a major compliment on the player.

Ruben Amorim suffered another major setback on Sunday afternoon after Manchester United lost 2-0 to West Ham at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Tomas Soucek opened the scoring for the Hammers in the first half before Jarrod Bowen slammed home the second for West Ham in the second half at Old Trafford.

United fought back against West Ham after going 2-0 down, but the Red Devils were unable to climb back into the Premier League contest on the weekend.

Graham Potter’s men walked away with all three Premier League points and West Ham have now climbed ahead of United in the table after Sunday’s result.

United dropped from 15th place to 16th place and the Red Devils are one point behind the Hammers and only a point above 17th-place Tottenham.

Amorim’s men have lost an eye-watering 17 times in the Premier League alone in the 2024-25 campaign and United only have two league matches left this season.

United are winless in their last five Premier League matches and the Red Devils have only picked up 10 wins from 36 fixtures amid a woeful run of league form.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has been able to benefit from Bruno Fernandes maintaining his influential form in the Red Devils’ first-team squad.

Bruno Fernandes kept the United captaincy after Amorim’s arrival from Sporting CP last November and has been the difference-maker for the Red Devils at times.

The 30-year-old Red Devils skipper has found the back of the net 19 times and picked up 19 assists along the way in 54 matches across all competitions for United.

Ian Wright has been a big admirer of Fernandes’ impact at Old Trafford and the Sky Sports pundit has lavished praise on the United and Portugal star in the past.

The 61-year-old footballer-turned-pundit admitted that he would have loved to have had a quality player like Fernandes at his former club Arsenal right now.

Speaking on The Overlap, Wright said: “I wish we had Bruno Fernandes.

“I wish we had Bruno. I would love to have him at Arsenal.”

Speaking after United’s latest setback against West Ham, Bruno Fernandes said that Red Devils players are still “prepared” for any moment left in the current season.

“Everyone has been training very hard, very well,” he told MUTV, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“Everyone is prepared to play at any moment, so I don’t think that’s the point [that changes and managing workload ahead of the final is affecting us].

“The team is prepared for that, and every chance and every opportunity is one to get into the next XI.

“If you get your chance, [and] you do things rightly, you’re going to end up playing.”

The Red Devils will now face Chelsea in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Friday before United will meet Tottenham in the Europa League final on 21st May.
