How much Man Utd sold every player for in summer 2024, ranking the sales

Manchester United will be pleased with one of the most profitable stretch of sales in the club’s history.

Ineos have delivered on a much-speculated ‘clearout‘, shifting a high number of players off the books, at times getting creative in order to do so.

Manchester United have not managed to sell all of the players they may have wanted to, and in one or two cases, deals were too good to refuse.

We have compiled a complete list of players who have left the club, the fees they have been sold for, and ranked the deals from the best downwards…

Scott McTominay to Napoli: £25.7 million

Scott McTominay becomes of Manchester United’s biggest ever sales, narrowly surpassing the fee David Beckham left for in 2003.

With McTominay being an academy graduate, the money goes down as pure profit in PSR terms. United have a 10 per cent sell-on fee.

McTominay has been given a hero’s welcome in Italy, where he has been labelled the best Serie A signing of the summer.

This is a good deal for the player, and a decent move for United financially too, even though his goals may be missed.

Mason Greenwood to Marseille: £23 million rising to £26 million

The objective for Manchester United this summer was simply to draw a final line under the Mason Greenwood saga and sell him permanently.

To United’s credit, the club managed to get this done relatively early. The fee is not as high as United initially wanted – but reflected the market for Greenwood.

United have a substantial sell-on clause which could net a very valuable source of income in the future – along with a controversial and unlikely to be exercised buy-back clause.

Willy Kambwala to Villarreal: £4.6 million rising to £10 million

Willy Kambwala was a somewhat surprising exit after a breakthrough season last year – yet it also made sense for him.

United will reflect they have done well to cash in on a defender who had just 10 senior appearances, and would have been fifth or sixth choice.

Kambwala has already made a good start at Villarreal, and there is a buy-back clause included as part of the deal.

Hannibal Mejbri to Burnley: £5.4 million rising to £9.4 million

A poor loan at Sevilla meant a deflated market for Hannibal Mejbri, once one of United’s most highly rated youth talents.

United struck a deal with Burnley which is a fairly low amount, yet also contains a buy-back and sell-on clause.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka to West Ham: £15 million

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s departure certainly split opinion among supporters, and West Ham fans believe they have got a bargain.

Just £15 million is a low fee – yet it also reflects the fans Wan-Bissaka had only one year remaining on his contract.

United were able to put a positive spin on this deal by signing Wan-Bissaka’s replacement, Noussair Mazraoui, for slightly less.

Will Fish to Cardiff City: £1 million rising to £3 million

Manchester United youth defender Will Fish needed to cut the cord with the club and net himself a permanent deal elsewhere. Cardiff have paid a fair fee too.

Fish might go on to make this look cheap, but it is all money towards United’s pot, and there is a strong chance he will activate all of the add-ons.

Donny van de Beek: £500,000 rising to £7.6 million

Manchester United simply had to get Donny van de Beek off the books after a miserable spell at Old Trafford.

This low fee was one step up from simply releasing him. Van de Beek could make this exit a more profitable one.

United did well to get this one sealed nice and early, with Van de Beek’s exit to Girona agreed at the start of July.

Facundo Pellistri: £5 million rising to £6.5 million

Facundo Pellistri is an international regular for one of South America’s top teams, and has high future potential. So many fans were left perplexed why he cost just £5 million.

The answer is a combination of factors. Pellistri had only one year remaining on his contract at United.

There was also a low market for him, with Panathinaikos’ desire for his signature prompted by their Uruguayan manager.

United can reflect on poor loan decisions which have not helped the winger – who has immediately made a big impression at the Greek club.

Alvaro Fernandez: £5 million

Another player where United have landed a very low fee, impressive left-back Alvaro Fernandez signed with Benfica on a permanent basis.

Benfica wasted no time activate their loan agreement at the start of the summer. Fernandez now has a release clause of more than £40 million.

Maxi Oyedele: £500,000

United have allowed Maxi Oyedele to leave the club for a nominal fee, signing with Polish side Legia Warsaw.

The Red Devils have inserted various clauses into the deal, which like many of these, which you could argue turns the move into a glorified loan – with no guarantee of return.
