Edinson Cavani has pledged his commitment to Manchester United.

Earlier on deadline day, journalist Fabrizio Romano shut down claims coming from Spain that Cavani could sign for Barcelona, which had been reported by The Mirror.

Cavani has now responded to the reports with a message on social media showing he is fully committed to Manchester United.

Reports came after Ronaldo return

It would be understandable if clubs like Barcelona wanted to test the waters and try and sign Cavani, to see if he was tempted.

He is a top quality player who would make any team he plays for a stronger side. He scored 17 goals in his debut season at United.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to United could potentially have unsettled him – but it appears thankfully this is not the case.

Losing Cavani to gain Ronaldo may only have left United in a marginally better position.

Now United have both, for one season, with Cavani extending his deal to run until 2022.

Cavani will still need replacing when his contract expires, but he has made a commitment to United and he wants to see it out.

The Athletic reported how he decided not to travel on international duty once he learned the repercussions would mean days quarantining in a hotel, and then missing multiple United games.

He wants to fight for his place and for the team, and United are far stronger as a result.
