Atalanta midfielder Ederson could soon be holding up a Manchester United shirt as a new signing at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are close to agreeing a £38m deal for Ederson to kickstart a midfield overhaul in the summer transfer window.
Ederson is prioritising United and has already agreed personal terms on a contract proposal. A move appears imminent, with the transfer window officially opening on June 15.
When (if) Ederson’s move is made official, he will have an interesting choice of squad numbers to pick from.

What number will Ederson wear at Man United?
At Atalanta, Ederson has worn the number 13 ever since he signed for the Italian club in 2022.
However, Patrick Dorgu is currently United’s No.13, so unless there is a change over the summer, he will have to explore his other options.
In the Brazil national team, Ederson has worn the No.17 shirt, and that is currently vacant at Old Trafford since Alejandro Garnacho’s exit.
The number, previously worn by compatriot Fred in midfield, would be a fitting choice for Ederson.
Alternatively, Casemiro’s exit means that his number 18, previously worn by Paul Scholes, is also up for grabs.
Ederson has also worn the number 24 for Brazil, and with Andre Onana linked with a permanent exit, that number could also be available in 2026/27.
