The emotional tension at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon for Casemiro’s Manchester United farewell will no doubt be felt before kick-off against Nottingham Forest.

The veteran Brazil midfielder will walk out on the Old Trafford pitch for the final time as a Manchester United player ahead of his summer exit from the Premier League club.

Casemiro has become a United fan favourite during his spell at the Red Devils and the expected spine-tingling reception he will receive this weekend will be palpable.

No matter how emotional Casemiro’s farewell will be for Red Devils supporters, the Nottingham Forest encounter will include another major moment for United fans.

What is your message to Casemiro ahead of his final home game at Old Trafford?

Do you think it will be a scoring farewell for Casemiro?

Casemiro’s Old Trafford exit will pull on the heartstrings, but Michael Carrick’s speech could set the tone for Man Utd fans

Manchester United fans only need to rewind time one year ago to the moment Ruben Amorim addressed the Old Trafford faithful after a “disastrous” season.

“I want to tell you the good days are coming,” he said in 2025, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“If there is one club in the world that proves in the past that it can overcome any situation, any disaster, it’s our club, it’s Manchester United Football Club.”

United’s better days are here in the short term at least, but the surprising detail is that it won’t be former United manager Ruben Amorim who will be on the microphone again.

Instead, Carrick is likely to address United fans after the Nottingham Forest match to sign off the final Premier League fixture of the 2025-26 season at Old Trafford.

United fans know full well that Casemiro’s exit is taking the spotlight — and rightfully so — but Carrick’s time to address the supporters will be impactful in its own way.

Goodbye or ‘new beginnings?’ The stage is set for Michael Carrick to mark a major turning point for Man Utd

Not many Man Utd fans could have ever imagined that the Red Devils would be back in the Premier League top four and returning to the Champions League for next season.

But the ‘Carrick effect’ made its mark in the second half of the 2025-26 campaign and the tone is already different from when Ruben Amorim spoke to the crowd.

Will Carrick use his speech to say his emotional farewell to Man Utd fans? Is it an opportunity for him to send one final message to Ineos about his future?

There are so many questions to be asked about what the 44-year-old United legend will say the moment his lips open over the microphone at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Irrespective of whether his appointment is made permanent or not, Carrick’s words at the Theatre of Dreams signify a ‘new beginnings’ moment for the Red Devils.

Gone is the sombre tone of Amorim’s speech, and it now feels like ‘hope’ and a ‘fresh start’ could take centre stage for the themes of Carrick’s speech to United fans.

Casemiro’s ‘thunder’ won’t be stolen on his final appearance at Old Trafford as a United player, but Carrick could make his own powerful mark on the day as well.
