1 – Altay Bayindir
Previously worn by: David de Gea, Edwin van der Sar, Peter Schmeichel, Alex Stepney, Harry Gregg
Manchester United are currently in an unusual situation where the club’s number one, Altay Bayindir, is actually the team’s second choice goalkeeper.
2 – Diogo Dalot
Previously worn by: Victor Lindelof, Gary Neville, Rafael da Silva, Paul Parker, Viv Anderson, Nobby Stiles
Diogo Dalot switched from 20 to take up the number 2 shirt in 2025/26 following Victor Lindelof’s release.
3 – Noussair Mazraoui
Previously worn by: Eric Bailly, Luke Shaw, Patrice Evra, John O’Shea, Phil Neville.
The number three shirt was most recently worn by Eric Bailly, prior to his contract being terminated at the start of the 2023/24 season.
4 – Matthijs de Ligt
Previously worn by: Sofyan Amrabat, Phil Jones, Owen Hargreaves, Gabriel Heinze, Juan Sebastien Veron, David May
Recent loanee Sofyan Amrabat wore the number four shirt in 2023/24, which had previously been assigned to Phil Jones between 2011 and 2023.
5 – Harry Maguire
Previously worn by: Rio Ferdinand, Marcos Rojo, Ronny Johnsen, Lee Sharpe.
Former club captain Harry Maguire has been assigned the number five shirt ever since his move to the club in 2019.
6 – Lisandro Martinez
Previously worn by: Paul Pogba, Jonny Evans, Wes Brown, Jaap Stam, Gary Pallister.
Rio Ferdinand also wore the number six shirt for one season before switching to the number five for the rest of his Manchester United career.

7 – Mason Mount
Previously worn by: Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Eric Cantona, George Best, Bryan Robson.
In recent years the iconic number seven shirt has also been worn by Cristiano Ronaldo again, along with Edinson Cavani, Alexis Sanchez, Antonio Valencia, Memphis Depay, Michael Owen.
8 – Bruno Fernandes
Previously worn by: Juan Mata, Anderson, Wayne Rooney, Nicky Butt, Paul Ince, Gordon Strachan.
Bruno Fernandes switched to take Manchester United’s number eight shirt in 2022.
9 – Rasmus Hojlund
Previously worn by: Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku, Dimitar Berbatov, Louis Saha, Andy Cole, Brian McClair, Sir Bobby Charlton.
Manchester United’s famous number nine shirt has a new owner, with Anthony Martial released, Rasmus Hojlund has swapped in and vacated the number 11.
10 – Matheus Cunha
Previously worn by: Marcus Rashford, Wayne Rooney, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Teddy Sheringham, Mark Hughes, Denis Law, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
New signing Matheus Cunha has been given the number 10 shirt, following his £62.5 million move from Wolves.
The number 10 shirt has been worn by some of the best goalscorers in Manchester United history. Marcus Rashford was given the number in 2018, before it was re-assigned for the 2025/26 season.
David Beckham also wore the 10 shirt in 1996/97, before taking the famous seven following Eric Cantona’s retirement.

11 – Joshua Zirkzee
Previously worn by: Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Adnan Januzaj, Ryan Giggs.
The number 11 was associated with Ryan Giggs for more than two decades. It has been assigned to striker Rasmus Hojlund since 2023.
12 – Tyrell Malacia
Previously worn by: Chris Smalling, Ben Foster, David Bellion, Phil Neville.
Left-back Tyrell Malacia has had the number 12 shirt since 2022. It had been vacant since Chris Smalling’s departure.
13 – Patrick Dorgu
Previously worn by: Lee Grant, Anders Lindegaard, Park Ji-Sung, Roy Carroll.
14 –
Previously worn by: Christian Eriksen, Jesse Lingard, Javier Hernandez, Alan Smith, Jordi Cruyff, Andrei Kanchelskis.
15 – Leny Yoro
Previously worn by: Sergio Reguilon, Marcel Sabitzer, Andreas Pereira, Nemanja Vidic, Kleberson, Jesper Blomqvist, Karel Poborsky.
16 – Amad
Previously worn by: Marcos Rojo, Michael Carrick, Roy Keane.
The number 16 was most notably associated with Roy Keane, but Michael Carrick did pretty well too once he replaced him.

Previously worn by: Alejandro Garnacho, Fred, Daley Blind, Nani, Henrik Larsson, Liam Miller, Raimond van der Gouw, Andy Cole.
Andy Cole was assigned the number 17 shirt when he signed for the club in 1995. Once Brian McClair departed in 1996, Cole took the number nine.
18 – Casemiro
Previously worn by: Bruno Fernandes, Ashley Young, Paul Scholes.
Bruno Fernandes wore the number 18 when he signed for United, before vacating it to take the number eight.
19 – Bryan Mbeumo
Previously worn by: Raphael Varane, Amad, Marcus Rashford, Danny Welbeck, Eric Djemba-Djemba, Dwight Yorke, Nicky Butt.
Now vacant after Raphael Varane’s release. The number 19 has been associated with some great names.
20 –
Previously worn by: Diogo Dalot, Sergio Romero, Robin van Persie, Fabio da Silva, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Dion Dublin.
Legendary strikers Robin van Persie and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer both helped to make the number 20 shirt a part of the club’s history.
Solksjaer wore the shirt when he scored the Treble clinching goal, while Van Persie appropriately wore it to lead United to a record 20th title.

Previously worn by: Antony, Dan James, Ander Herrera, Dong Fangzhou, Diego Forlan, Henning Berg.
22 – Tom Heaton
Previously worn by: Sergio Romero, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Nick Powell, Paul Scholes, John O’Shea.
Paul Scholes took the number 22 shirt when he came out of retirement in 2012, with Ashley Young wearing his 18.
23 – Luke Shaw
Previously worn by: Tom Cleverley, Jonny Evans, Kieran Richardson.
Luke Shaw was originally assigned the number three shirt when he signed from Southampton. He wanted to switch to 23 shirt when it became available after Tom Cleverley left, the same number he wore at the Saints.
24 – Andre Onana
Previously worn by: Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Darren Fletcher, Wes Brown, David Beckham.
Goalkeeper Andre Onana insisted to wear number 24 instead of number one, because it was the same squad number he held at Ajax and Inter Milan.
25 – Manuel Ugarte

26 – Ayden Heaven
