Predicted Manchester United line-up to face Liverpool in Premier League clash

Manchester United head to Anfield on Sunday afternoon, with Ruben Amorim hopeful of ending a four-game losing streak.

It was a truly disastrous festive period for Manchester United.

Four games, four defeats and most concerningly Ruben Amorim’s side have failed to score in the past three games.

This means a goalless loss on Sunday would match a 116-year-old record at United. Concerningly, this game has fallen against the league leaders who have been incredible in recent weeks.

Liverpool represents the biggest challenge yet for this woeful United side, although Amorim is hoping additional training sessions will help his team. United haven’t scored past Liverpool at Anfield since 2018, and haven’t won at Anfield in almost a decade since 2016.

Manchester United vs Liverpool predicted XI

Despite the awful run, United have been better than results have shown with a resurgent second half against Newcastle proving that Amorim’s philosophy is slowly being implemented.

Against Liverpool, Amorim will be delighted to have both Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte available, following the disastrous Casemiro and Christian Eriksen midfield.

There will be no Marcus Rashford at Anfield, with Alejandro Garnacho likely to be on the bench once again.

So here is our United predicted line-up to take on Liverpool at Anfield.

Andre Onana

Starting off in goal, despite some atrocious performances in recent weeks, Andre Onana is almost certain to start amid rumours of United overhauling the goalkeeper position.

Matthijs de Ligt

Given the volatile Anfield crowd, we predict that Amorim will opt for the more experienced Matthijs de Ligt opposed to Leny Yoro in this one.

Harry Maguire

Amorim confirmed on Friday that Harry Maguire’s contract will be extended, and his renewed importance should continue against Liverpool.

Lisandro Martinez

Completing the backline, Lisandro Martinez will look for a much better outing than he had with the captains armband against Newcastle.

Noussair Mazraoui

On the right side, for once a defensive option may be the right call and so we tip Noussair Mazraoui to start the game.

Manuel Ugarte

Returning from his one game suspension, Ugarte should bring a much needed tenacity and defensive solidity to the midfield – hopefully seeing United avoid another slaughter at Anfield.

Kobbie Mainoo

Kobbie Mainoo was a game changer against Newcastle, and in doing so probably played his way into contention against Liverpool.

Diogo Dalot

On the left, Diogo Dalot has been a disaster but without additions he seems likely to start here for the forseeable.

Amad Diallo

Behind the striker on the right, we expect that it will once again Amad Diallo, with his importance to United growing every week. Amad is United’s player of the month for December and deservingly so.

Bruno Fernandes

Alongside Amad will be the returning Bruno, who was suspended against Newcastle. If United are to get something, the captain will be right at the thick of it here.

Goals have been hard to come by in recent weeks, but it’s still clear that Rasmus Hojlund is above Joshua Zirkzee in the pecking order.
