It’s good enough for Rafael da Silva, who backs the move. But what do Manchester United supporters make of a potential deal for Corentin Tolisso?
RMC Sport reported this week that United are in contact with Tolisso’s representatives over a move for the midfielder, who Bayern value at £31 million.
Tolisso is just one of a variety of midfielders linked to United this transfer window, following Donny van de Beek, Jack Grealish and Jude Bellingham.
So it would be a leap of faith to assume Tolisso is suddenly a priority. This just could be United doing due diligence on a potential back-up option if other moves fail.

That said, it’s unclear how much money United will have to commit to signing Jadon Sancho. It will be a club record fee, it’s just a question of how high it goes.
That may mean not much money is left over, and cheaper options like Tolisso may enter United’s thoughts.
Rafael said he Tolisso was one of the best midfielders he had ever played with, referring to their time together at Lyon.
Tolisso captained the Ligue 1 side before signing with Bayern Munich, in a move which he hoped would catapult him to world superstar status.
It hasn’t quite worked out like that, with competition for places, injuries, and managerial changes all contributing to a disappointing stint in the Bundesliga.
We have been stung by Bayern in the transfer market before. They are a smart club, and usually when they sell, it is with good reason.
Tolisso is still only 25 and he needs a successful move to turn his career around. Clearly he is not in Bayern’s plans.
Bayern could be looking to sell to raise money for their own transfer targets, like Kai Havertz.
This summer is a big opportunity for United, and it feels like we should be cherry picking the players we really want who are at the top of their games.
Moving for players whose careers need rescuing should not be part of our plans, especially when they would arrive with a big injury red flag. Tolisso has started just seven Bundesliga games this season.
He is clearly very talented, but Tolisso would be a squad player, and this would feel like a signing out of convenience, rather than him truly being at the top of United’s shopping list.
