Jurgen Klinsmann has dropped his assessment on Bruno Fernandes and Michael Carrick after the end of Manchester United’s 2025-26 campaign at Old Trafford.
The former VfB Stuttgart and Bayern Munich striker made an appearance on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast alongside Roy Keane and Gary Neville.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville poked fun at Roy Keane’s feud with Bruno Fernandes after asking Jurgen Klinsmann if assists ‘mattered’ for a player.
Keane had taken issue with Fernandes over comments that he had made last season about chasing the assist record, only for him to misquote the Man Utd captain.

Jurgen Klinsmann on Bruno Fernandes’ demeanour after the Man Utd midfielder’s season under Michael Carrick
Bruno Fernandes broke the Premier League assist record on the final day of the season in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Brighton at the Amex last month.
The 31-year-old Portuguese midfielder has been met with criticism in the past over his captaincy and his behaviour on the pitch, including throwing his arms around.
Despite comments made around Fernandes, the Red Devils skipper has excelled for Man Utd since his stunning move from Portuguese outfit Sporting CP back in 2020.
Jurgen Klinsmann defended Fernandes’ demeanour and explained it was something that nobody could change about him, including Red Devils boss Michael Carrick.
“Maybe, maybe I won’t say it, I did, but I try to keep it on the funny side of things because you will not change people on the field,” he said on Stick to Football.
“They have their way of doing it. And if Bruno has made that way, you will not change him anymore.
“You have got to take him the way he is. At least if some goals come out of it, with all the assists that he is doing, fantastic.”

Jurgen Klinsmann on Michael Carrick’s dramatic impact on Man Utd’s Premier League 2025-26 campaign
Carrick returned to Old Trafford back in January and the 44-year-old United legend led the Red Devils to a third-place finish in the Premier League table last season.
The former Middlesbrough head coach inherited a Red Devils side that was seventh in the Premier League table and Klinsmann hailed Carrick’s superb work at the club.
“And I think Man Utd [have] obviously [had] a fantastic season,” Klinsmann added.
“Nobody expected that kind of turnaround with Michael Carrick.”
Carrick was appointed the permanent United manager ahead of the Red Devils’ final Premier League match of the season against Brighton in May.
