If members of the Glazer family decide to sell their Manchester United shares, then Sir Jim Ratcliffe could be the big winner.
According to a report from Bloomberg, some members of the Glazer family are debating whether to sell their stake in Manchester United.
The report claims that some individual family members are open to selling and are hoping to convince others to join them.
Joel Glazer and Avram Glazer currently own the largest stake of the family, while Kevin Glazer, Bryan Glazer, Darcie Glazer and Edward Glazer are all directors on the club board.
Bloomberg reports members of the Glazer family are considering selling up: What are your thoughts?
Do you have any faith this could be a full sale, or are we looking at a gradual share sell-off?
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has opportunity to increase Man Utd stake
Sir Jim Ratcliffe currently owns around a 29% stake in Manchester United following his £1.2 billion takeover deal struck on Christmas Eve in 2023.
Ratcliffe increased his stake through a £79m investment, and he has also invested in infrastructure improvements such as the £50m Carrington refurbishment.
When his minority takeover deal was approved, it was reported by Daily Mail journalist Mike Keegan that there was an agreement struck by the Glazers and Ratcliffe about a future takeover deal.
Keegan claims that there is a clause that requires the Glazers to offer any shares to Ratcliffe first if they intend to sell.
After a dramatic start to 2026, what is your message to Sir Jim Ratcliffe?
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has always targeted full Man Utd takeover
When Ratcliffe was bidding for United, the initial reports were that he wanted a full takeover.
According to Sky Sports, Ratcliffe bid for all of the Glazer shares in 2023, but ultimately they came to an agreement for a minority takeover with full sporting control.

However, Ratcliffe’s vision at United is clearly long-term. From the 100,000-seater stadium plans to ‘Project 150’, Ineos are clearly here for the long haul.
If members of the Glazer family do decide to sell, United fans may want to temper any expectations of a full sale to a new bidder, and perhaps anticipate an increase in Ineos control.
