Bringing Ruud van Nistelrooy back as a coach is already paying off as he plays a key role in Manchester United signing Chido Obi-Martin.

This summer has already seen Manchester United sign two very exciting players in Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee, but Chido Obi-Martin has the potential to surpass both.

Chido Obi is a phenomenal talent and he’ll now be plying his trade for the Red Devils at Carrington next season, with the level he plays at yet to be defined.

The 16-year-old is one of the nation’s best prospects and he joins an increasingly exciting attacking contingent at Old Trafford with Rasmus Hojlund, Zirkzee, Ethan Wheatley and Gabriele Biancheri all being exciting or already very impressive.

Now, it seems that Chido Obi’s decision to join United was influenced by Ruud van Nistelrooy, here’s how.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy played key role in Chido Obi-Martin deal

Hours after Chido Obi liked a message on Instagram which dropped a massive hint that he’d be Old Trafford-bound, not the deal has been given a ‘here we go’ by Fabrizio Romano.

In doing so, Romano also shared some interesting extra details in his post on Instagram.

He wrote: “Ruud van Nistelrooy was also key to get the deal done, he spoke to Chido Obi-Martin about development plan.”

Van Nistelrooy being such a draw for strikers is no shock, with Zirkzee also said to be excited to work under the legendary Dutchman.

Romano also stated that the United project and also the pathway to first-team football was what made the difference and convinced him to join the Red Devils.

Chido Obi had the chance to accept higher proposals from German clubs but he chose United instead which shows how exciting the club is right now.

Chido Obi will be relishing the chance to work with Van Nistelrooy

While a pathway to first-team football is a major factor for Chido Obi, so will the chance for him to be mentored and taught by Van Nistelrooy who is a timeless forward, heralded among the best of this century.

The teenager won’t have ever watched Van Nistelrooy play – he’s too young – but the reputation of the Dutchman precedes him.

Learning under Van Nistelrooy could be absolutely massive for the career of Chido Obi, who has all the raw talent and striker instinct to make it to the pinnacle of the sport, and it could be Van Nistelrooy’s impact which pushes him from a prospect to first team ready over the next 12 to 24 months.

Chido Obi will likely begin life playing for the academy, but he’ll be training with the senior team often we imagine as he must have been promised a lot of exposure to the senior side and possibly even minutes in order to convince him to pick United over Bundesliga interest.
