The two major Man United signings that Ruben Amorim wants to make this summer

Ruben Amorim is aware that he needs his Manchester United squad to be strengthened in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Since Ruben Amorim arrived in England, Manchester United’s first-team squad has arguably grown weaker.

The Portuguese head coach took over a Red Devils side slumped in the bottom half of the Premier League table, and the January window saw Marcus Rashford join Aston Villa on loan and Antony Leave for Real Betis.

Amorim lost two senior attackers and was only reinforced with the £25m deal for Patrick Dorgu and the £1m arrival of Ayden Heaven – two great signings, but hardly replacements for the attacking pair.

Ineos have recruited well at United so far, but in the summer Amorim will expect to be backed with signings of his own after £182m was spent on Erik ten Hag last summer.

Laurie Whitwell names Ruben Amorim’s ideal signings

In his latest press conference, Amorim said he wants two ‘big signings’ in the summer.

He went on to specify that “big” doesn’t necessarily mean expensive or big-named stars, but players that will directly improve his starting XI.

According to Laurie Whitwell at The Athletic, Amorim has two positions in mind. Given United’s goal struggles this season, it is “inevitable” that he will want a new striker.

On top of that, an “athletic midfielder” is also at the top of Amorim’s shopping list, especially as Christian Eriksen is set to leave in the summer when his contract expires.

Casemiro wants to stay at United until his contract expires in 2026, but Amorim has warned players that some will have to leave and he could be pushed towards the exit too.

Man United’s biggest summer transfer targets

There are plenty of strikers and midfielders who have been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, and some appear to suit Amorim perfectly.

United continue to be linked with Viktor Gyokeres – a reunion with Amorim could be on the cards, but a move will likely depend on the Red Devils qualifying for the Champions League.

Reports claim United have contacted Victor Osimhen to let him know that he is a top summer target. But like Gyokeres, his signature won’t come cheap.

If Ineos do want a younger and cheaper target, United have monitored Liam Delap who could be available this summer, especially if Ipswich Town are relegated.

In terms of a midfielder, United could return for Angel Gomes – a former academy star who has impressed in France and is out of contract this summer.

Additionally, United have been linked with Chris Rigg, who has been dominating the Championship with Sunderland this season.
