Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Manchester United are in pole position to complete the signings of two key transfer targets for manager Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos organisation have already bolstered Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad with two new signings.
The Red Devils completed their acquisition of Netherlands striker Joshua Zirkzee in July from Serie A side Bologna in a deal worth £36.54m.
United also beat Real Madrid in the race to sign highly rated French defender Leny Yoro from Ligue 1 side Lille for an initial fee of £52.18m.
However, Ten Hag has already been dealt an early blow after summer signing Leny Yoro picked up an injury in pre-season against Arsenal in the United States.
Yoro has since had successful surgery on a foot injury and the 18-year-old United defender is expected to be out of action for three months.
United are still expected to make more signings this summer before the window shuts, despite the start of the 2024-25 season being right around the corner.

Romano provides Man Utd transfer update
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United are still in hot pursuit of Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
Erik ten Hag worked with both Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui at Ajax and the Bayern Munich defenders have been heavily linked with a move to United.
The United boss is keen to reinforce his centre-back options after Leny Yoro’s injury, with De Ligt seen as a preferred target ahead of Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite.
Noussair Mazraoui was linked with West Ham and the Hammers had agreed a fee to sign the Bayern full-back before a move to the London club collapsed.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano said: “The negotiation is ongoing between Manchester United and Bayern, and they [United] already had a bid rejected, but they are increasingly confident because they have an agreement with both players, for a five-year contract plus option for both of them, and they absolutely want to join Manchester United.
“De Ligt has been waiting since June, and Mazraoui’s agreement was reached in July, so both players are giving total priority to Manchester United.”
Man Utd interest in De Ligt and Mazraoui
United reportedly tabled a joint bid to sign Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui this summer, only for Bayern Munich to dismiss the offer.
De Ligt, who is under contract at 2027, has fallen out of favour at Bayern and the 24-year-old Dutch defender could be sold if the right fee arrives this summer.
United have wasted no time in making an approach for Mazraoui after West Ham failed in their bid to sign the 26-year-old right-back.
West Ham have switched their attention to Aaron Wan-Bissaka after missing out on Mazraoui and the United right-back could leave Old Trafford.
United are keen to offload Aaron Wan-Bissaka and free up wages and secure a transfer fee for the player ahead of signing Mazraoui this summer.
