Manchester United suffered two injuries in the opening game of the club’s pre-season tour in the USA.
Rasmus Hojlund’s hamstring strain was followed 20 minutes later by new signing Leny Yoro suffering a fractured metatarsal.
Both players face spells on the sidelines, although Hojlund will make his return before Yoro.
Erik ten Hag says Hojlund and Yoro are showing positive attitudes in their recoveries, and it looks like the Dane is being especially supportive for the young Frenchman.
Yoro pictured after undergoing surgery
Leny Yoro underwent surgery on his metatarsal earlier this week, with Manchester United describing it as successful.
Yoro sent a message following the surgery, expressing his mixed feelings on his situation.
He explains: “This is not the start I wanted, but that’s football… The operation went well. Thank you for your many messages of support ❤ Now, time for patience and rehabilitation work. See you soon, stronger.”
United shared an image of Yoro in his hospital bed following the surgery, tipping him for a ‘major comeback’.
Yoro teammates show support
Leny Yoro’s teammates have shown their support for the young Frenchman, including injured teammate Rasmus Hojlund.
Hojlund wrote in response: “Back stronger my bro”, while Hannibal responded simply, “Soon”.
Club captain Bruno Fernandes wrote: “We will be waiting and supporting you”, with Mason Mount adding: “Back in no time brother!”
Yoro can utilise this time to settle in his new surroundings and bond with his new teammates. For the first few weeks, he will be sharing the treatment room with Hojlund, and this will help him.
It may take until November for Yoro to return, but he will be worth it. The young defender is the most highly rated young centre-back in Europe, and United must not rush his recovery.
As United state, this is a ‘minor setback’ a big talent.
