Former Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has attracted the interest of one European club after becoming a free agent this summer, according to reports.

Anthony Martial’s spell at Old Trafford came to an end following the 2023-24 Premier League season, with his Manchester United contract expiring.

The 28-year-old former United star was reduced to only 13 Premier League appearances, with Martial managing only five starts for the club.

Martial, who made 19 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 season, missed the second half of the campaign at Old Trafford due to injury.

The former France striker first arrived at United under Louis van Gaal in 2015 after he was signed from French side Monaco for an initial fee of £36m.

Martial, who struggled to deliver on a consistent basis, lifted a Europa League, an FA Cup and a League Cup during his spell at Old Trafford.

Martial attracts transfer interest from club

According to Sky Sports, Anthony Martial is now being ‘considered’ by one club after his departure from Manchester United this summer.

Journalist Lyall Thomas took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and has said that Lille are ‘also keen’ on signing Martial.

Martial has attracted interest from other teams since he became a free agent, with Serie A club Atalanta among the sides keeping close tabs on the Frenchman.

Atalanta are now without Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca for up to six months after he suffered an ACL injury against Parma on Sunday.

Martial is believed to have potential options across the world, including in the MLS, Brazil and the United Arab Emirates.

Sky Sports also reports that the former France international is ‘uninterested’ in signing for Ligue 1 side Marseille or Turkish side Besiktas.

Martial’s agent on his future

According to Martial’s agent, the former United striker is taking the time to “consider the next steps” and his next move will not be financially motivated.

Speaking to Sky Sports (via the Manchester Evening News), Philippe Lamboley said last month: “Anthony is on vacation.

“We are studying the different projects that have been offered to him. We are going to take time to consider the next steps.

“He’s going to take time to be fit and ready for his new club and he’s been training normally for two months.

“He’s 28 and I’ve heard reports he will be too financially greedy with clubs. This is not true.

“Anthony wants an ambitious project to achieve high club goals and get back into the France team. He will choose his club according to the sporting and family project.

“The finances are important for any professional player but they are not his priority.”
