Diogo Dalot ‘likes’ Matthijs de Ligt message as star has ‘no intention’ of Bayern stay, Fabrizio Romano says

Manchester United have seen another bid rejected for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt.

This is a saga which needs to end. Manchester United’s pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt is not quite in Frenkie de Jong territory, but no party will want this to drag on much longer.

The difference here is that Matthijs de Ligt actually wants to sign with Manchester United and reunite with Erik ten Hag. And Bayern are not opposed to his sale – they just feel United have not met their valuation yet.

The Athletic reported that Manchester United’s double offer for De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui was turned down as it did not meet the German club’s valuation.

Matthijs de Ligt returns

While Bayern are in South Korea preparing for a friendly match, Matthijs de Ligt is still in Germany, due to his inclusion at Euro 2024.

De Ligt only returned to Bayern’s training facilities on Friday, to get checked over, and carry on conducting himself in a professional manner, despite his desire to leave the club.

The Dutchman shared a picture on Instagram where he was getting checked out by the club’s medical staff – which was curiously ‘liked’ by Diogo Dalot.

Dalot has never played alongside De Ligt, and we suspect he is simply showing his interest in the activities of a potential future teammate, and letting him know.

De Ligt has ‘no intention’ to stay

Manchester United are expected to return with a new offer to try and seal the deal for De Ligt and Mazraoui and strengthen the club’s defensive options.

In a new video update from Fabrizio Romano, he explains De Ligt has ‘no intention’ to stay put at Bayern Munich.

“He is waiting for United and he has no intention to continue at Bayern. He has a clear plan, to go to Manchester United.”

Until a bid is accepted, however, De Ligt will stay put, he has no intention of going on strike to force a move or anything like that – this is a matter for the clubs to resolve.

United’s negotiating position may have been weakened by the injury to Leny Yoro.

De Ligt now feels like a necessity for United rather than a luxury. We expect the deal gets done, its possible something even happens this weekend. It would be in everybody’s interests.
