Transfer deadline day has been and gone in England but one Manchester United player remains at the centre of interest.
Manchester United’s deadline day business saw one player arrive as two first-team players were offloaded.
Manuel Ugarte finally joined United from Paris Saint-Germain, completing his rather protracted move to Old Trafford.
Ugarte’s arrival meant United cashed in on Scott McTominay, reluctantly allowing him to sign for Napoli.
There was also a very late departure as Jadon Sancho joined Chelsea on loan with the obligation for a permanent move.
United enjoyed a decent window as the first part of the Ineos plan materialises, but there is still work to be done in future windows.

Christian Eriksen to Ajax addressed
Midfield continues to be a concern for United, especially after Casemiro’s disastrous display against Liverpool on Sunday.
Ugarte will hopefully form a strong partnership with Kobbie Mainoo moving forward but it’s clear that revamping United’s midfield may take a few windows.
One player who is even attracting interest outside of the English transfer window is Christian Eriksen.
The Dane admitted being unsure about his future back in April and reports in August suggested that United were ‘expecting’ bids for Eriksen.
The English transfer window is closed but deadline day in the Netherlands is now upon us – and Ajax continue to be linked with Eriksen.
Transferwatch in the Netherlands report that there has been ‘frequent contact’ between as Ajax and Eriksen’s representatives.
De Telegraaf – as relayed by Ajax Showtime – suggest that Ajax would love to sign Eriksen but a deal just isn’t financially viable.
Only with the last-minute sale of winger Steven Bergwijn would Ajax be able to afford a deal; even offloading unwanted duo Owen Wijndal and Benjamin Tahirovic won’t be enough.
If there was any doubt, Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots has now told Voetbal International that there is no chance of the playmaker heading elsewhere.
“We can end those speculations,” said Schoots, maintaining that Eriksen intends to say with United rather than return to Ajax.

Eriksen exit surely isn’t far away
It’s almost a surprise that Eriksen is still at United now.
The 32-year-old showed his quality at Euro 2024 but is now back to playing a bit-part role at United.
Eriksen’s only appearance so far this term was a four-minute substitute appearance against Liverpool on Sunday.
Eriksen was even overlooked when Ten Hag substituted Casemiro on Sunday as he went with youngster Toby Collyer instead.
The Dane just doesn’t seem to have a key role to play and whether it’s now, January or at the end of the season, a departure is surely coming.
A return to Ajax will no doubt appeal to Eriksen, allowing him to play a starring role in familiar surroundings over in Amsterdam.
Ajax seemingly don’t have the ability to strike a deal before their deadline, but don’t be surprised if they look into a 2025 deal.
