Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies has been named as one of Manchester United’s top targets for 2025.
Ruben Amorim has now had one month to assess his new squad at Carrington and the Portuguese head coach will have a better idea of where he wants to strengthen.
After his first match against Ipswich Town, Amorim demanded a new left wing-back having identified that position as the biggest weakness in the squad.
Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are the best natural fits at left wing-back but have both struggled to stay fit at United.
Shaw has suffered a fresh injury which has left United short of options on the left. Diogo Dalot has been linked with Real Madrid ahead of the January window and the Portuguese has filled that position so far this season.

Man United linked to Alphonso Davies
A new left wing-back arriving in 2025 seems inevitable. Several wing-backs have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, including Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.
United could trigger a buy-back for Alvaro Fernandez while Geovany Quenda is also on United’s radar.
However, Davies is also on United’s shopping list with the 24-year-old’s contract at Bayern set to expire next year.
Ineos dream of signing Davies in 2025 with the Canada international thriving in a wing-back role in Germany. He is seen as a perfect fit for Amorim and fits the club’s transfer strategy of signing young, promising talents.
However, United face competition from elsewhere with Real Madrid also interested in a move. Bayern are also keen to extend Davies’ contract.
Alphonso Davies’ stance on joining Man United
United can offer regular game time and a high wage to Davies, but the Red Devils are very much in a transition phase and are at the very start of a long-term project under Amorim.
According to The Athletic, there are two reasons why United are not an “attractive” option for Davies.

The report claims that the “upheaval” at United is one factor impacting his decision.
Not only is Amorim just one month into his job, but sporting director Dan Ashworth left after just five months. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is still introducing sweeping changes at the club.
On top of that, United’s lack of Champions League football is a concern for Davies.
A top-four finish would be a tall order for 13th-placed United this season, with the Europa League looking like the best avenue back to the Champions League.
