Ruben Amorim’s focus might be on improving the current Manchester United squad as of now but he’s undoubtedly planning with one eye on the future.
So many changes in every game by Ruben Amorim hint at two things. First, as he says himself, the players need to be fit and experience the system so rotation is necessary.
The unsaid factor, however, is that Amorim is still juggling and finding out his best XI because this team has some obvious pitfalls in some positions.
Amorim has already asked Man Utd to sign a new left-back, while a striker could be on the agenda if the current crop doesn’t contribute much between now and the end of the season.
Amidst this upheaval, Fabrizio Romano has shared an encouraging update on a Man Utd transfer target who could be an “attractive” option.

Fabrizio Romano on Alphonso Davies to Man Utd
When it comes to the left-sided wing-back position, three names have been concretely linked to Old Trafford for the summer window.
Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez, and Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, all have their pros and cons.
In terms of pure pedigree at the highest level, Davies stands above the other two and while Hernandez’s contract situation makes him attractive for Man Utd, Davies is not much different.
Davies’ contract expires next summer and so far, there hasn’t been any news of a renewal or even of him leaning towards that side.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano has shared an encouraging update on Davies’ future which makes him an “attractive” option for the club.
He said: “There are reports that Alphonso is extending the contract with Bayern but my information is that he is still not decided on anything.
“The situation remains absolutely open for him. My understanding also is that he is not signing anything until Christmas. The idea is to consider all the possibilities.
“Bayern are still there, pushing to extend the contract. There is Real Madrid, interested for a long time and there’s also Manchester United looking for a left-back.
“Alphonso Davies, in case he decides to leave Bayern, could be an attractive prospect for the club.”
Alphonso Davies’ transfer situation is one to watch at Man Utd
United under Ineos made it clear last summer that although they enter the transfer market with a plan of action, they are open to striking when an unmissable opportunity arises.
Davies’ contract situation will be one such opportunity and the prospect of beating Real Madrid to a player twice in two years is an enticing one too.
That all depends on whether Davies signs a new contract at Bayern and that is where Romano’s encouraging update comes in.
He could be exploring all his options and he is well within his rights to do so but it’s not something a player who has made up his mind does.
United could be working in the background to convince Alphonso Davies of a move and Madrid doing the same could leave Bayern in an uphill battle to get the player to stay.
As the clock ticks closer to January, making Davies free to talk to other clubs, that pressure will only intensify further and United will need to be at hand to strike again if an opportunity arises.
