Why clubs are taking interest in Diogo Dalot right now, Man Utd star wanted across Europe

The arrival of Ruben Amorim was always going to see some casualties, however, few would have predicted it be Manchester United’s Players Player of the Year last season.

Diogo Dalot was an ever-present fixture of Erik ten Hag’s team over the past year. Dalot started every game for 11 months running up until Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

The Portuguese full-back’s versatility has made him an important player recently, even under Amorim, who has deployed Dalot as a left wing-back in the opening three games in charge.

However, it seems clear that Manchester United will sign a new left wing-back in 2025 – which could mean Dalot is left positionless in Amorim’s United side considering Amad Diallo looks nailed down on the right.

Now United in Focus can share that Dalot’s future is far from guaranteed at Old Trafford.

Clubs now circling Diogo Dalot

Earlier this week it was reported that Real Madrid were interested in Dalot, and now speaking to transfer expert Graeme Bailey, United in Focus can share that the La Liga giants are not alone.

“Dalot is an interesting one”, Graeme began to explain.

“I am told that there are clubs aware that Dalot may not fit into this Amorim system. Intrinsically these wing-backs need to be able to attack, Dalot is a good attacking full-back but is that enough?

“A few enquiries are being made in the background, not to United or Dalot but through intermediaries and a few conversations have been had.”

Continuing, Graeme named the clubs including Real Madrid, who are keen to sign Dalot.

“Real Madrid have been aware of him, and I’m told there are two or three in Spain. Bayern Munich’s name has come up as well as a few in Italy.

“So I think he’s one of the players who United like but he may be one who is a victim of the change of circumstance.”

Manchester United would be wise to sell £50m Dalot

Despite the importance Dalot has had for Manchester United, being valued at around £50m according to other reports would be a huge fee for United to receive.

£50m for a player who does not fit perfectly into Amorim’s team would be an excellent move from Ineos – as good as Dalot has been.

Also a healthy profit on the £19m man who was last year’s Players’ Player of the Season.

This kind of money could see United get a left-sided wing-back who perfectly embodies what Amorim wants – such as seen with Amad on the right.

Dalot likely misses out to Noussair Mazraoui in terms of staying due to his adaptability, with Mazraoui finding himself at home in central defence.
