Harry Amass will surely be concerned about the latest news to emerge from Manchester United

Manchester United are nearing a move to sign Patrick Dorgu, but not everyone will be excited about his arrival.

After a quiet opening three weeks of the January transfer window, Manchester United could be about to tick off one priority.

Patrick Dorgu is seen as the solution to United’s left wing-back woes. Now, Italian reports suggest Dorgu is within reach, as Antony is expected to head out on loan to Real Betis.

This would give Ruben Amorim his one transfer demand upon joining United, to bolster the weakest position on the team sheet.

Dorgu is not a confirmed arrival yet, but if he does join the club it could spell bad news for one United Academy talent.

Harry Amass will be concerned by Patrick Dorgu arrival

While signing a first-team-ready left wing-back will be hugely exciting for United supporters and the coaches, in the academy Harry Amass will not be so excited.

At just 17, Amass was considered on the cusp of a breakout last season, a belief which only strengthened after his impressive pre-season performances which earned Luke Shaw comparisons.

However, Amass is yet to make his debut, with physicality seen as a problem. Now the Englishman is tipped for a January loan.

This verdict on Amass from Amorim is telling, and with Dorgu being just two years older – it would suggest United are not convinced of Amass’ ability to become elite.

Amass’ prospects look even slimmer when considering that United also added young Diego Leon to the ranks, as he is set to join officially in July.

The two new additions have qualities that place them ahead of Amass, with both being physically gifted – something Amass is not.

Manchester United investing for the future of wing-back

One month ago, Amorim had zero natural left wing-back options and was therefore forced to utilise Diogo Dalot in the role.

Shaw has barely played for a year now and despite the returning Tyrell Malacia – Amorim is without a player he deems ideal for the role.

However, if United can secure this addition then there will be two natural wing-backs at Amorim’s disposal, with both having the potential to be elite.

Behind Dorgu and Leon, United also have Bendito Mantato who could yet go on to be an excellent footballer and wing-back.
