Diego Leon is on the verge of becoming the first Paraguayan to sign for Manchester United.

Manchester United have had many stars from South America over the years, but Diego Leon will be the first to come from Paraguay when he joins the club in the summer.

Following a £4.7m agreement between United and Cerro Porteno, Leon travelled to England to carry out transfer formalities at the weekend.

It was reported on Wednesday that Leon had completed his medical examinations at United.

Leon has already shared pictures with members of United’s first team, including Alejandro Garnacho and Lisandro Martinez.

Leon’s move to United has yet to be announced but it sounds like he can’t wait to get started in his new surroundings.

Due to his age, Leon must wait a little longer as he will return to Cerro Porteno until the end of the season.

Dream come true for Diego Leon

Leon admits his move to United seems like a dream.

The 17-year-old has done an interview with GEN in Paraguay to reflect on his busy trip to the UK.

“You can’t even imagine the things that come to mind,” Leon said, as quoted by Versus.

“It’s hard to think that all this is real, it seems like a dream, thank God everything is coming true for me.”

Leon is expected to become United’s first signing since Ruben Amorim became manager over a month ago. He replaces Erik ten Hag as head coach of a side lacking quality in the left wing-back department.

That is why signing Leon, a young prospect for the position, makes so much sense as Ineos try to build a team for future success.

Leon gets warm welcome at Manchester United

Leon has been busy between sorting transfer formalities and completing medical examinations over the last few days.

While in Manchester, the young left wing-back met some of his future team-mates.

Leon was surprised to be greeted by Argentina internationals Garnacho and Martinez.

Reflecting on the interaction, Leon praised the humble pair saying: “They are high quality; the truth is that they surprised me. Very humble on their part.

“Everything about Manchester surprised me, it seems like you’re in a movie. Thanks to perseverance, humility and my family, I am now where I am.

“There is no way to thank my family especially with words, words will not be enough to thank them.”
