Manchester United had one priority transfer to complete this month and it is close to being done.

For over a year now, the left side of defence for Manchester United has been a major weakness.

Erik ten Hag highlighted left-back as his biggest problem, with no natural option available to him for a long time – with Luke Shaw barely available since last season.

Making matters more pressing, upon Ruben Amorim’s arrival at the club – he made left wing-back a priority position for United.

Several options have been linked, with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez not for sale this month. So now United have been progressing in talks to sign an even younger talent for the position.

Manchester United growing in confidence over Patrick Dorgu

A quiet January transfer window was never going to last for United, with arrivals and departures now ramping up.

The one player who looks most likely to be signed right now is Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu. It was first reported on Monday that United were in talks to sign Dorgu.

Space is being cleared for Dorgu by the potential exit of Tyrell Malacia and also Antony’s move to Real Betis.

Now, with the dominos falling for Amorim to add a wing-back – Corriere dello Sport have reported that Dorgu is within United’s grasp. United have had officials head to Italy to finalise and complete the sensational move for the generational being-back.

Dorgu is convinced of a move to United, with a ‘very important proposal’ being enough to have him want to move to Old Trafford. The report also claims €35m (£29m) including bonuses would be enough for United to secure the Danish wonderkid.

Interestingly, Solo Lecce have claimed their local club wants to keep Dorgu for the rest of this season – a gauntlet for United to match their demands or risk missing out.

Ruben Amorim closing in on the perfect player for his system

Signing Dorgu is like the deal to sign Leny Yoro. The Dane is a generational talent in his position and bug bringing him in this month, United would be getting him at a price before his value skyrockets.

Dorgu was linked earlier this month, however, a move seemed unlikely given his boundless potential which promised to command a massive fee.

Since Dorgu was linked heavily, there has been scepticism over whether he is good enough to be a wing-back for Amorim. However, at just 20 years old, Dorgu is not only an upgrade on the options – but also has the potential to be one of the world’s best.

Dorgu is an offence first wing-back which is what Amorim wants, so this deal would be absolutely perfect for United.
