Manchester United’s away supporters deserved this one. After trips around Europe, the club’s loyal following have something to cheer.
Over the past 19 months, Manchester United’s away support have travelled to Turkey (twice), Portugal, Denmark, Germany, and Spain, and failed to see the team win.
Three of those games were losses, and three defeats, all taking place under former boss Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United’s last away win in Europe came in March 2023. Can you remember it?

Manchester United’s away record in Europe
Manchester United’s last away victory in Europe before the 2-1 win over Plzen was the 1-0 victory over Real Betis, 19 months ago.
And this was somewhat of a dead-rubber, with a 4-1 victory in the home leg at Old Trafford killing off the tie.
Here is a look at how United’s away results in Europe have shaken out over the last couple of years.
- 2-1 vs Plzen
- 1-1 vs Fenerbahce
- 3-3 vs Porto
- 3-3 vs Galatasaray
- 3-4 vs Copenhagen
- 3-4 vs Bayern Munich
- 0-3 vs Sevilla
- 1-0 vs Betis
- 2-2 vs Barcelona
- 1-0 vs Real Sociedad
Tyrell Malacia has reason to smile
Just like he had never been away, Tyrell Malacia can celebrate as if the six winless away games without him never happened.
Perhaps the ex-Feyenoord defender is a lucky charm?
Malacia missed the games against Fenerbahce, Porto, Galatasaray, Copenhagen, Bayern, and Sevilla through a long-term injury.
But he did start against Plzen, and he did start the previous away European win, at Real Betis.
Malacia was substituted off in the Czech Republic before Manchester United’s comeback really took hold – but he can take some pride in the win. He played 61 minutes, his longest game since his return.
