Five Manchester United academy talents Ruben Amorim should start vs Wolves, including three debuts

This season could still end up successful for Manchester United with a Europa League semi final to look forward to, but there are still six Premier League games to get through.

However, despite around 16 per cent of the Premier League campaign still to play, it is already all but concluded for Manchester United with nothing to play for in the competition.

Due to a season when United have severely unperformed, Ruben Amorim is in something of a mini-league which could see the Red Devils finish as low as 17th but alternatively as high as 10th if everything goes to plan.

Currently 14th at the time of writing, United’s position within this mini-league means nothing, and every effort must be dedicated to the Europa League semi-final against Athletic Bilbao in May.

Due to this, Amorim has admitted he will be using the academy stars for Premier League games in order to effectively wrap the first team in bubble wrap with everything depending on the Europa League. This weekend against Wolves could see the start of this after a 120 minute clash on Thursday, it would be silly to risk anyone this weekend.

So here are five academy players who could and should be named in the starting line-up to face Wolves.

Honourable mentions who could also get their big opportunity

Jack Moorhouse

The first name on the list to deserve a chance in the starting line-up this weekend for his first team debut is Jack Moorhouse, who has been waiting patiently for his chance this season.

Moorhouse impressed Amorim early in his United reign, with performance at U21 level which proved he is ready for a step up and since then he has been a regular in first team squads and training, but is yet to get a minute.

This should change on Sunday, with Moorhouse a good option to start in place of Alejandro Garnacho in order to protect the Argentine and give him a long overdue rest.

Harry Amass

Another player we would like to see starting on Sunday is Harry Amass, who has featured in the past two games and done himself proud, repaying Amorim’s trust.

Amass was on the pitch for the historic 7-6 aggregate comeback win vs Lyon which will have been an experience which taught him plenty and we think he starts his second successive Premier League game.

Amass starting, would allow Patrick Dorgu the weekend off, keeping him 100% for the semi-final, but expect some minutes for the Dane to keep him match fit.

Chido Obi

One man who is surely set to make his full debut for United’s senior team this weekend is Chido Obi, with only Rasmus Hojlund available in the senior striker department.

Hojlund has one goal in 26 games, and so this weekend, similar to last week and Andre Onana, Amorim should take him out of the spotlight, and Obi, in this case, should be starting.

Obi has shown some good play already in the first team despite limited chances and a recent step back. However, Amorim has hinted at Obi getting more minutes going forward and that starts on Sunday against Wolves.

Jaydan Kamason

Another possible debutant might be Jaydan Kamason, with the right wing-back stepping into the first team squad this season on a handful of occasions.

Diogo Dalot is one player who never gets a rest and so Amorim can give Kamason his debut and rest Dalot in the process which would benefit United for the semi-final.

United staff believe that Kamason is too good for Amorim to ignore, and on Sunday there seems a good chance he is given the opportunity to prove why.

Sekou Kone

Rounding out the five names is another possible debutant in Sekou Kone, as he has been proving he is ready to step up with his performances lately in the U21s.

Kone was signed for £1m last summer and taken his time adapting to life in England and growing physically and now Sunday could be a golden opportunity for him to finally get a run out in the senior team.

Casemiro could be rested, as could Manuel Ugarte, and in their stead, Kone would be a good fit.
