An “impressive” Manchester United signing under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford has only proved that he was always destined to hit new heights in his playing career.

Ruben Amorim has been busy overhauling the Manchester United first-team squad that he largely inherited from Erik ten Hag after his arrival from Sporting CP in 2024.

The 40-year-old United manager saw his first major signings arrive back in the January transfer window with the additions of Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven.

Amorim has now been able to bolster other positions in his United squad this summer, with Matheus Cunha arriving from Wolves for a £62.5m fee in June.

Joining Matheus Cunha at United this summer was Diego Leon, who agreed to sign for the Red Devils back in January before completing his transfer earlier this month.

Bryan Mbeumo is United’s third major summer signing of the ‘Amorim era’ at Old Trafford after the Red Devils’ pursuit of the ex-Brentford star was finally sealed.

What former Brentford manager Thomas Frank predicted about Bryan Mbeumo speaks volumes about the Man Utd summer signing

Bryan Mbeumo was linked with Manchester United this summer and the Red Devils’ dragged-out transfer saga for the French-born winger came to an end on Monday.

United confirmed the signing of Mbeumo from Brentford after the Red Devils’ third bid was finally accepted, with Ruben Amorim landing a key summer transfer target.

Mbeumo inked a five-year contract with United and the Red Devils’ fee for the ex-Brentford ace exceeded the £62.5m paid to Wolves for Matheus Cunha this summer.

United agreed to pay an initial fee of £65m to sign the Cameroon international from Brentford, with a further £6m agreed in add-ons for the former Bees attacker.

Red Devils signing Mbeumo had entered the final 12 months of his Brentford contract, having inked his last deal at the Gtech Community Stadium back in 2022.

Thomas Frank had said at the time that Mbeumo signed his previous contract with Brentford that the Cameroon winger had been “impressive” in the Premier League.

But the 51-year-old ex-Brentford manager also suggested at the time that he hoped the Bees could “maximise Bryan’s potential” and also made a telling prediction.

“We are only seeing the start of what he will be able to produce,” he said, as per BBC Sport in 2022.

“He has a brilliant future in front of him.”

Thomas Frank’s ultimate praise for Bryan Mbeumo at Brentford sets the stage for Man Utd’s new signing to thrive at Old Trafford

The prolonged saga between United and Brentford over Mbeumo’s transfer was painfully agonising for Red Devils fans to witness first-hand this summer.

However, United were clear that Mbeumo was a key transfer target and the Red Devils did everything in their power to bring that player to Old Trafford.

Mbeumo stood out at Brentford with an impressive showing in the 2024-25 season, with the Cameroon star scoring 20 times in 42 matches across all competitions.

Thomas Frank, who left Brentford this summer to become Tottenham manager, had tipped the ex-Bees ace for a bright future and he nailed his prediction for Mbeumo.
