Andre Onana is the first major outgoing for Man Utd this summer window, heading to Trabzonspor on another loan.
It’s a return to familiar surroundings for Andre Onana, who spent the previous season on loan at Trabzonspor as well.
Man Utd would have liked to sanction a permanent sale for the goalkeeper, but there are clearly no takers anymore.
However, this loan move isn’t an isolated deal; it confirms an Ineos template for a certain kind of player in the Man Utd squad.

Andre Onana is re-joining Trabzonspor on loan again for 2026/27 – What are your thoughts?
Andre Onana’s move is a clear message from Ineos
For a club that has had a hard time selling well, Ineos have made a concerted effort to correct that reputation.
For example, getting more than £40m for Rasmus Hojlund to make him one of Man Utd’s most expensive sales is a great feat.
However, that is increasingly the exception, because it’s clear that there’s a certain type of contract Ineos have no patience for.
To offload these players, Ineos don’t think about profit/loss/PSR/FFP, or any such financial angles, because they just want to see the back of them.
Antony was one, Onana is another, and so is Marcus Rashford, or Jadon Sancho.
For these players, the philosophy of addition by subtraction is followed, with Ineos perfectly happy to take losses and keep them on the books if there aren’t permanent offers.
Onana is clearly one such player, with all his ambitions of wanting to fight for the No. 1 spot at Old Trafford spoiled within a week of the window opening.
Some Glazer-era contracts and players clearly irritate Ineos more than others, and they are perfectly happy to cut them loose regardless of the finances involved.
They probably can’t wait for 2028, when the last five-year contract handed out by the Glazers comes off the books.
Onana deal sets the way forward for Marcus Rashford
As it stands, after the departure of Casemiro and Sancho, followed by Onana now, only Marcus Rashford remains on the books as a “legacy” Glazers contract, inherited by Ineos.
Marcus Rashford evidently does not want to return to Man Utd – There is no way back for him surely?!
🪄
The way he was made a part of the bomb squad last summer makes it clear that, for all their public posturing, there is no way back for him at Man Utd.
This swift Onana deal, another loan move no less, solidifies that thought, because it’s clear at this point that even if Rashford is open to returning to the club, Ineos have no interest in paying him his huge wages.
He likely won’t be sent back to Barcelona as a matter of principle, after all the shenanigans the Spanish club have pulled, but his race at Man Utd is run.
Onana sets the template for players whose contracts Ineos have no time for.
