Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford faces an uncertain future.

Marcus Rashford made crystal clear that he saw his long-term future in Barcelona, during his loan spell at the club in 2025/26.

However, the La Liga club have not reciprocated Rashford’s desire for a move.

Barcelona signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle instead, paying more than double the cost required to sign Rashford from Manchester United.

Both players are currently in the England squad at the World Cup, and the opening game saw Rashford come out as the winner.

What’s YOUR message to Marcus Rashford after Barcelona’s deal for Anthony Gordon?

Should Man Utd use this reality check to try and bring Rashford back?

Rashford outshines Gordon

Anthony Gordon was selected to start for England against Croatia, but he was ineffective. He failed to create any chances and completed only nine passes, before being substituted in the 72nd minute.

Rashford was his replacement and he scored England’s fourth goal, making an immediate impact.

Spanish newspaper AS noted the difference between the pair: “The worst news for Anthony Gordon was seeing his replacement make a name for himself. In just 18 minutes, Marcus Rashford confirmed his claim to a starting spot.”

Lauding Rashford’s contribution, the outlet described: “A stunning goal, complete with a cutback inside the box, from the Manchester United player… Everything Gordon would have wanted to do.”

Rashford is a known quantity to Barcelona fans who was available at a bargain price. The outlay on Gordon, a lower profile player, puts him under pressure to outperform the Manchester United forward.

Rashford hoping for Barcelona reprieve

Marcus Rashford has not given up hope that Barcelona will sign him to add to their attack along with Anthony Gordon.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Rashford has struggled with Gordon being signed ahead of him.

The newspaper state: “Rashford is fully aware of his situation with respect to Barca and although it was hard for him to accept the blow of the Catalan club signing Gordon and not exercising their purchase option, he has not yet lost hope of continuing to be linked to the Catalan club next season.”

However, Rashford is now not reliant on Barcelona and is ready to consider other options.

“He’s starting to accept that if a suitable offer comes his way before the transfer window closes, he might not risk waiting for the Catalan club unless he’s 100% certain they’ll sign him.”

The other option on the table is staying at Manchester United.

There is a £40 million release clause in his contract, but clubs would also need to offer him a salary matching his high Manchester United wages.
