Ruben Amorim’s sacking at Manchester United has posed plenty of questions about the competence of the board and their decision-making.
The decision was made on Monday to sack Ruben Amorim as head coach just 14 months after his appointment at Manchester United.
With the Red Devils currently sixth in the Premier League table, the decision was not based on results, but instead on his comments made before and after the 1-1 draw with Leeds.

Amorim reportedly fell out with Jason Wilcox and tension was growing behind the scenes. When Amorim spoke out about the club’s hierarchy, he was dismissed less than 24 hours after the Leeds match.
But sacking Amorim has left United without any long-term plan, and naturally attention turns to CEO Omar Berrada as the man responsible.

Omar Berrada’s job safety at Man United
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has proven over his first two years as co-owner that he is not afraid to wield the axe and make cuts from his senior staff. Dan Ashworth lasted just five months as sporting director before being shown the exit.
Amorim’s sacking at United brings attention to United’s senior leadership, in particular, Jason Wilcox and Berrada.
But speaking on The Athletic FC Podcast, journalist Oli Kay is confident that Berrada’s role at United is more than safe.
“He’s not director of football, he’s not chairman, he was chief executive at Manchester City. He was there for nine years, I think. The first four years were for commercial,” Kay said.
“Then he was sort of chief football operations officer. And chief of football operations officer isn’t the guy leading the football vision. It’s often logistics, it’s often managing the football department.
Are you happy with Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe?
“So I was never quite understanding of why he was taking a lot of credit for so much of the legwork behind the Amorim appointment.
“I haven’t heard any suggestion that he’s under any threat whatsoever. I’ve heard really, really good things about Omar Berrada.”
Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox lead next manager search
With Amorim now gone, Darren Fletcher has been handed interim control of United.
It has been suggested that United are ready to wait until the summer to make a long-term head coach appointment, and that decision will fall to Berrada and Wilcox.

At the time, there were strong reports that Berrada pushed to hire Amorim from Sporting Lisbon, while other figures such as Ashworth were less convinced.
Berrada is tasked with finding Amorim’s successor, and currently Oliver Glasner is tipped as favourite, but his preference of playing a 3-4-3 formation only makes things more complicated.
