Southampton will not want to hear the name ‘Manchester United’ any time soon after a 9-0 thrashing at Old Trafford.
While Southampton were down to 10 men early on, United made it look easy.
That is not something we have done against Southampton any time at all recently.

United needed a last minute winner from Edinson Cavani to beat the Saints 3-2 back in late November.
That made it just two wins out of the last five games against Southampton, with both victories coming by a single goal. United blew this away last night.
First double since Sir Alex
Beating Southampton twice in a season should normally not even be noteworthy. These are the types of victories Manchester United expect.
Yet it says so much about the team’s struggles over the past few years, that we have not been able to manage it.
David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho all failed with the straightforward looking task of winning home and away against Southampton in a single season.
These are the types of unwanted records which United have built up, and Solskjaer is beginning to break.
An impressive night
United’s free flowing football was a joy to watch and this was the first time since 1995 that the club had scored nine goals in a single game.
As BBC Sport report, this was the first time since 1997/98 that United have scored four first half goals twice in the same season. It followed up a similar blitz against Leeds in December when United ended up winning 6-2.
This was also just the second ever time a team had managed seven different scorers in a single Premier League game.

This was a confidence building night for United, with Edinson Cavani scoring a first Old Trafford goal, while Anthony Martial added to his figures with a brace. Even Aaron Wan-Bissaka found the net.
Next up United face an Everton team we have scored five goals past in two games this season. Another strong performance is expected and United’s players will have a spring in their step.
