Patrick Dorgu was one of the most impressive Manchester United players of the 2025/26 campaign under Michael Carrick after being moved to the wing.

Ruben Amorim famously criticised Patrick Dorgu, explaining that he had anxiety every time the Dane touched the ball. But these comments feel like a long time ago, with his quality shining through when moved further up the pitch.

Dorgu has been unstoppable on the wing, scoring and assisting more frequently than any other player in his more advanced position.

Every 70 minutes under Carrick, he has a goal contribution. This has primarily come on the left, but now people close to him are suggesting his best will come in another role.

Patrick Dorgu tipped to reach his full potential as a right-winger

Kobbie Mainoo has tipped Dorgu to be even better next season, labelling him as ‘one to watch’ for United.

Due to his unique profile of being so physical, quick, and working incredibly hard on the wing, Dorgu has made himself an attacking option for Carrick, as opposed to a full-back.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, sources close to Dorgu actually believe that long-term, he won’t find his best on the left.

Instead, it is thought that he may eventually find his best version as a right winger, where he will be able to cut in on his left foot, which has been proven in 2026 to be lethal.

Interestingly, this comes after Dorgu played excellently on the right for Denmark in a recent friendly, scoring an absolute worldie.

Manchester United’s wing options are now so strong

In the space of just a few years, Manchester United have completely transformed the options on both wings.

From Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Facundo Pellistri, Omari Forson, and Marcus Rashford, United now have four players who are potentially league-leading.

Dorgu and Matheus Cunha, on the left, are a brilliant pair to select from with such a difference in their qualities, while Amad and Bryan Mbeumo are also so good on the right.

Added to his United have Shea Lacey and now links with Crysencio Summerville, which would be a league-winning department with enough quality to compete across four competitions.
