The reason for Marcus Rashford Manchester United exit delay, it could be expensive for him

Marcus Rashford is waiting for a resolution on his future, with it appearing it does not lie at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim was asked about Marcus Rashford at his press conference, and his response was clear, that all players have the opportunity to impress him.

The most likely outcome is an exit. While Sir Jim Ratcliffe has blocked possible moves to other Premier League clubs, Rashford has been linked with half of Europe.

Barcelona, AC Milan, Napoli, and Borussia Dortmund have all been linked to Rashford, yet halfway through January, a deal does not look immediately close.

From the outside there appears a puzzling lack of urgency, from a player who has not played any football in a month. He released a short video showing him training alone, earlier this week.

Hold-up in Rashford exit

Marcus Rashford’s exit from Manchester United is unnecessarily complicated. United are not seeking a permanent sale this month, instead preferring a loan, potentially leading to a sale in the summer.

Rashford’s high wages mean there will be some negotiations involved with clubs – but that is not the only financial hurdle to clear.

United In Focus understands via Graeme Bailey that the hold-up related to Marcus Rashford’s exit from Manchester United is connected to image rights.

Marcus Rashford has one of the most lucrative image rights deals in the Premier League, worth a seven-figure sum.

By leaving United on loan, Rashford could lose out financially on the agreed deal, and this is causing complications, as the image rights contract is non-transferrable.

He adds that Napoli have also made their interest known in Rashford – but the priority for the player and his representatives are to come to a compromise on the contract wrangle that could impact him negatively financially.

Rashford season stalls

The highlight season of Marcus Rashford’s career was in 2022/23 when he scored 30 goals in all competitions for Manchester United.

He failed to follow this up, not even getting double figures in 2023/24, scoring only eight goals, while also losing his England spot and missing out on Euro 2024.

2024/25 has been steadier for Rashford, he has scored seven goals – but may not add to this at all, at this rate, for Manchester United.

The seven goal tally has not convinced clubs to shell out big transfer offers for Rashford, and his lack of football over the past month places a further question mark on his form.
