Sir Jim Ratcliffe has blocked Marcus Rashford moving to three clubs, Man Utd chief intervenes

Manchester United will not allow their rivals to take advantage of their precarious financial position.

United’s owners need to cut costs to meet the Premier League’s rules on Profit and Sustainability (PSR).

Given their homegrown statues, even Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have been made available for transfers.

Marcus Rashford is another high-profile player who could leave Old Trafford this month. However, even though Rashford’s preference is to join Barcelona, he also has suitors closer to home.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe blocks Marcus Rashford exit

Although United won’t stand in Rashford’s way when it comes to him leaving during the mid-season window, they will not allow the 27-year-old to join a direct domestic rival.

Several English clubs have enquired about United’s number 10. According to the Daily Star, London trio Chelsea, Tottenham and West Ham have all thrown their names into the mix, but Sir Jim Ratcliffe has blocked further negotiations.

The British billionaire doesn’t want to strengthen his rivals, two of which sit within three points of the Red Devils, and damage his side’s chances of qualifying for Europe next season.

Quite a cut-throat stance from Ratcliffe, who appears determined only to allow Rashford to play overseas.

Risky from Ratcliffe

Although this approach to negotiations by Ratcliffe is understandable to a degree, many fans would rather Rashford play elsewhere for the remainder of the season — even better if a club are willing to pay a portion of his wages.

Not only that but given his dire form, many will wonder just how much of a threat the misfiring forward could really be. He hasn’t been able to do it at United, so why would a move to the capital produce a different outcome?

If failure to offload Rashford before next month means Ruben Amorim is lumbered with a player he doesn’t have full faith in, and one who is among the side’s highest earners, there will certainly be a lot of questions asked of United’s decision-makers.
