Ruben Amorim responds decisively to Marcus Rashford question, the player must make the next step

Manchester United are preparing to take on Southampton in the Premier League on Thursday evening.

The Red Devils come into the next Game Week following a win last time out. United beat Arsenal on penalties in the FA Cup Third Round.

Hoping to continue the winning momentum, Ruben Amorim has admitted the pressure is on United’s first team to perform.

And for one player in particular, a clear message has been set.

Ruben Amorim sends no-nonsense Marcus Rashford message

Made available for transfer following a prolonged decline in performances, Marcus Rashford will be allowed to leave Manchester United as long as a suitable offer is made.

Although the forward is attracting interest from multiple clubs, Rashford’s transfer preference is to join Barcelona.

Amorim doesn’t want to be dragged into speculation surrounding his number 10’s future, though.

“I just want to win tomorrow. My focus is to win tomorrow,” he told reporters ahead of Southampton. “I will choose the players that I think are best to win the game tomorrow. I am just focused on that.”

Only looking to win games, the United manager is not interested in pandering to the demands of a player who earns £375,000-a-week — a rarely-seen approach to management at United but one that has been long overdue.

Amorim’s next team selection key to Rashford’s Man United future

By Amorim’s own admission, he will only pick the players he believes are capable of beating Southampton — bottom of the table Southampton — bottom of the table Southampton, who are on course to break Derby’s unwanted lowest Premier League points tally ever record… That Southampton.

Rashford confirmed his return to fitness with a video showing him training in the gym the day before United are due to host the Saints.

Consequently, failure to be included in United’s matchday squad will all but confirm he has no place in Amorim’s plans moving forward — regardless of whether he spends the remainder of the season out on loan or not.

Despite the dismissive tone of Amorim’s recent comments, his message is clear — if Rashford does not take responsibility for his performances, he risks not only exclusion from Thursday’s squad but also the club’s future.
