Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fronted up and spoke to the media after Manchester United’s defeat to Liverpool.
After a 5-0 loss at home there is no hiding place, and Solskjaer was asked about his future.
The Norwegian said he had no intention of walking away, bizarrely saying United were ‘too close’.
Solskjaer told Sky Sports: “I have come too far, we have come too far as a group and we are too close to give up now.”

Too close to what exactly?
Solskjaer’s comments don’t stand up. It’s difficult to see what exactly United are close to. It isn’t the top of the table.
United are eight points off the top of the league, and are statistically closer to 17th place in the table, with a seven point gap.
Already it feels like United are out of the title race, and face a scrap to finish in the top four.
This is not an over reaction to one result. United have been horrendous lately and have just one point from the last four Premier League games.
United are barely getting by in the Champions League. Defeat to Atalanta would likely send United from first in the group to third, with two games to go.
Solskjaer’s comments come across as deluded. The team look broken and his project is falling apart.
Aimless
How exactly will Solskjaer look to put this right? He gave no hints in his post-match interview.
Solskjaer looks like a manager who is out of ideas, and he does not trust his back-up players.
It was beyond comprehension that he started the same XI against Liverpool which began the game against Atalanta.
United are going to have to make a decision over Solskjaer’s future over the coming weeks. It looks like the manager is taking the side in only one direction.
The only thing Solskjaer is really ‘close’ to, is the sack.
