Saul Niguez has made his announcement over his ‘new club’ – and has not declared he is signing for Manchester United.
Sky Sports had reported Saul as a top target for United last month, and then the Atletico Madrid midfielder teased everybody on Sunday when he posted on social media that he would announce his ‘new club’ in three days time.
Making the announcement on his Instagram page, later than expected, Saul’s ‘new club’ turned out not to be anything transfer related.
Saul is creating a new club with his brother Aaron, called Club Costa City, based in the Spanish city of Elche, aimed at developing young players aged between four and 18, Tele Ex reports.
Saul said: “We have been developing this exciting and beautiful project for several years and I am very happy to be able to present it and make it official today.”
This is obviously a big deal for the area and it’s young people, and Saul has done everything to maximise worldwide attention for his big announcement.

As we noted earlier in the week, it made no sense for Saul to be announcing a transfer away from Atletico Madrid now, with La Liga just nine days away from restarting.
His side are also into the Champions League quarter-finals, after he played a key role in helping them beat Liverpool.
Perhaps United will pursue interest when the season is over. We warned not to get swept up in this though, and it’s no surprise that Saul’s new club was a letdown for anyone who believed he was set to announce an Old Trafford switch.
