Ruben Amorim decided there was no space for Ruud van Nistelrooy in his coaching staff at Manchester United.

After Erik ten Hag was sacked as manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy stepped up to take interim charge of Manchester United.

The legendary striker ended up in the hot seat for four games while United’s hierarchy finalised a deal for Ruben Amorim to become head coach.

He won three of his four games in charge, meaning Van Nistelrooy now has the best win rate of any United manager in history.

However, Amorim brought his own coaching staff to United and so the club announced on Monday afternoon that Van Nistelrooy and four other coaches left.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is favourite for Championship job

Van Nistelrooy made it clear that he wanted to stay at Old Trafford, but he has now been forced to look for work elsewhere.

Before joining United as Ten Hag’s assistant, Van Nistelrooy was the manager of PSV where he won the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruyff Shield.

His time as United manager was short but sweet and it has put his name on the radar of clubs currently looking for a new head coach.

According to Sky Sports, Van Nistelrooy has been named as the favourite to become the new Coventry City manager.

Coventry sacked Mark Robins earlier this month after seven years at the club with the Sky Blues currently 17th in the Championship table.
