New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim will welcome the approach that the Red Devils are taking with one forgotten first-team player at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils triggered the £9.25m release clause in the Sporting CP contract of Ruben Amorim earlier this month, with the Portuguese agreeing to the move.
Amorim, who has been widely hailed for his work at Sporting CP, arrived at Old Trafford last week at the start of the November international break.
The 39-year-old Portuguese manager succeeded former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout after he inked a contract until June 2027.
Erik ten Hag was axed from Old Trafford in late October after United’s poor start to the season and Ruud van Nistelrooy was installed as Red Devils interim manager.
Ruud van Nistelrooy led the Red Devils for four matches and the United legend picked up three wins and a draw during his interim managerial spell.
The 48-year-old Dutchman, who returned to Old Trafford in the summer as part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff, made his exit from the club after Amorim’s arrival.

The reaction to Man Utd player’s return
Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia made his long-awaited return to football this month after an extended period on the sideline due to an injury.
The 25-year-old Dutch left-back underwent two lots of knee surgery and Tyrell Malacia missed out the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign for United.
Malacia made his return last week for Manchester United Under-21s, with the Red Devils thumping Huddersfield Town 4-1 in their EFL Trophy tie.
The United star played the opening 45 minutes for United – his first match since 2023 – before he was replaced by Red Devils defender Harry Amass.
Malacia’s last senior United match came in a 2-1 win over Fulham in May 2023 before playing in the Netherlands’ Nations League final loss to Croatia in June 2023.
According to The Daily Mail, a ‘first-team source’ has insisted that United must be “patient” with Malacia as he makes his return from injury.
“He looked good but it’s going to take him time, he was out for so long,” the source told the newspaper.
“We need to be patient with him.”
Van Nistelrooy made update on Malacia
Ruud van Nistelrooy hinted that Tyrell Malacia could have played in the EFL Trophy match ahead of United’s 2-0 Europa League win over PAOK at Old Trafford.
“[All the injured players are] different cases, all of them,” he said earlier this month.
“Tyrell is the furthest [along the road to recovery] in the moment – he’s [been] part of team training for a couple of weeks now, full in team training, no restrictions.
“So, it’s good for him to plan game minutes, maybe in the Under-21s. We have to see.”
Ruben Amorim will no doubt welcome the progress that Malacia is making, with first-choice left-back Luke Shaw working towards his return at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag was forced to play makeshift left-backs amid Malacia and Luke Shaw’s absence in the first team before he was sacked by the club.
