Manchester United’s transfer window has seen several big names linked elsewhere.
Ruben Amorim’s first few months at Old Trafford have not been easy.
From horrendous record-breaking runs of form to the Marcus Rashford ‘new challenge’ interview and having to endure the concerning attacking record of Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund.
Amorim’s reign has also seen Ineos‘ ruthless attitude of being willing to sell most of the squad revealed. These reports sparked rumours of Chelsea being interested in Kobbie Mainoo.
This also saw it claimed United would listen to offers for Garnacho, and this soon led to Napoli formalising their interest with sub-par bids that United were never going to accept.
Chelsea also showed interest in Garnacho, but in recent games, Amorim’s stance has been made clear. Now, he’s spoken out in praise of the Argentine.

Ruben Amorim praises Alejandro Garnacho
Garnacho looked on the cusp of an exit, however in the past few games Amorim has been starting the 20-year-old almost in a show of defiance that he wants to keep the No.17.
Now, Amorim has discussed Garnacho.
“I’m happy to have Garnacho here,” he told TNT Sports. “He’s improving a lot. He’s a young talented guy.
“You want to work with these guys with talent. That’s what drives the coaches to improve the team; to have these kinds of players that you know they are going to improve a lot.
“In football, especially when we are in these situations, sometimes it’s hard, but I don’t want to focus on that. I’m really happy to have Garnacho playing tomorrow.”
Amorim sounds thrilled with Garnacho’s development and the improvements he has made in recent weeks. Not exactly a player that sounds like he is on the verge of an exit.
Garnacho’s importance for Manchester United is growing
When Amorim took charge, he was instantly not pleased with Garnacho’s work-rate and sulking on the pitch.
This climaxed when Amorim left Garnacho out of the Manchester derby – but it speaks volumes that the Argentina international fought his way back immediately.
Amorim praised Garnacho’s improving defensive work-rate, and since then he has been far more effective for United.
Garnacho last five games on FotMob
| Vs. | Minutes | Rating |
| Fulham | 81 | 6.7 |
| Rangers | 90 | 7.8 |
| Brighton | 26 | 5.7 |
| Southampton | 90 | 7.8 |
| Arsenal | 80 | 7.4 |
Meanwhile, in the past few games he has been arguably United’s most dangerous attacker, forcing his way into the starting line-up for four of the last five games – being among the best players in three of these starts.
Garnacho may have saved his future at Old Trafford, it is just a shame his senior teammate Rashford doesn’t follow his example. Despite consistent calls from Amorim to do so.
